UK Board Tracker Build Thread

Thanks guys. I did think about black and gold. I like the brown and green idea too.

Hi 2M, I like th strap idea too. I'll have look and see how I could incorporate that

Hi 2M, yeah that's quite an interesting thought. I'll maybe sketch out some ideas I think.

A little more done today - I machined the 5mm spacers for the front calipers to set them back enough to clear the new 320mm rotors.

I decided to get the coils mounted up too. I made up some U shaped brackets with a 6mm nut welded to the inner bottom face, the the coils can bolt directly to them, in between the split tanks

I hadn't finished off the bottom mount. So, I threaded either end of the 10mm bar and machined two aluminium spacers to make up the gap between the mounts on the frame

Lookin' good man! Thanks for the link to that rotor list, that will be helpful. David at Voodoo is a friend of mine, I was just at his shop on Sunday. Can't wait to see how your boardtracker turns out.

Today I decided to make a start on the seat and associated bracketry. I want to go for the single shock look, tucked away to keep it tidy. I started off with the seat pan, which I cut out of some 3mm steel and put a few degrees of kick at the back. Then, fabricated four brackets - two for the pan and two for the frame. I had a little mono shock lying around. At 5" it seemed to be a good size, so I used it to tack every thing up. I think it looks good but the spring rate is far to soft for my, erm, ample frame. I think it's a 300lb Spring so I'd say at least double it, so I'll have a look for an alternative.

That looks good...wonder if it's possible to get a round-head carriage bolt going from the top down...so as to keep the seat "smooth"? Just a thought.

As to the spring...is there flex in the latter part of the seat or on the spring itself? I wonder if you were to extend the bottom bracket to absorb the back half of the seat if that wouldn't stiffen it up a bit? (Again, just some thoughts based on the pics).

Nice job!

Hi Brassneck. The bolts will get cut down and then foam and covering on the seat. So, I'll use some nice stainless button head bolts up from underneath. Definately at the mo, they'll be useful for castration ;)

There's no flex in the rear of the seat, its surprisingly rigid. However, I've found a new spring which is 6" and 650lb rate. So, that should move it back a tad as you suggest, plus offer s stronger rate too :)

Hey Yoozy, can you tell :). Yes I am, it's great! It's starting to come together slowly. I'm hoping to have it done in time to take it to The Bike Shed in London in May. Hopefully ;)

Just a little bit done this afternoon. I trimmed down the left hand cover to get rid of the flicked up section at the rear. I've also found some different Spring rates but also an air strut used on mountain bikes I'll have a look at

Today I made a start on the footpegs and their mounts. I opted to use tube the same diameter as the frame and create a pair of 90 degree mounts. I cut the tube at 45 degree angles, notched one end and machine a threaded steel Bung. I welded this into the other end to take the foot peg and gear / brake lever. I mocked them up to get a feel for size and to work out the size of aluminium spacer I will need. Pretty pleased so far.

Hi all. A little more done today. I got the quick release clip ons fitted and popped on the front brake and clutch assemblies, along with their master cylinders

I also made a start on the gear shift lever and rear brake lever. I'm machining my own out of aluminium with 8x16x5 bearings pressed in to give an easy action. Hopefully I'll have them finished tomorrow.

I can't help but follow along buddy.I love that tank Paul. Those bars and controls look great on there.
What's the diameter of the rear wheel your running?
