Hi all,
I have just been cleaning up my valves.
The seats are good, I just gave them a little clean with fine grinding paste.
My main concern is the valve faces, or heads. On a couple of them I inadvertently cleaned off some of the black face coating down to shiny steel.
Are the valves still usable?
Many thanks.
Tim.

Actually I think they call it the head of the valve, that is the round section that faces the piston. The face is the area that seats on the valve seat. It is the head which is missing black coating.

All you did was remove some of the carbon build up from what I see in that picture. Did you lap the valve seat?

Hi cra-z1, the carbon was all removed and the valve was covered in some sort of black coating. Some of the coating is still there as you can see in the picture but I used wet and dry to clean the stubborn deposits off and it took some of the black coating off with it.
