Vstar question

I know this is not a vstar forum but oh well, I do have an xs by the way. Found an 07 or 08 vstar that has been wrecked for $700, thinking about picking it up. How do I tell if its a 650 or 1100? Also what are some things to look for engine wise as signs of damage? It does have a hole in the stator cover, was hit from that side at about 30mph from what I was told.

Seems I read the 1100's all have dual discs up front? And the 1100's have discs on the read and 650 have drums?

V-star 1100 has a rear disk brake; V-star 650 has a rear drum brake, 1100 dual disks up front; 650 single disk. Many other differences of course but the eye can spot these significant differences readily.
