Well, I'm disassembling my '78 special and weighing all the parts I take off.

I don't have tire levers to take the tires off my mag wheels, so I was wondering how much these bare rims weigh.

Also, if you have any weight saving tips, you can post that too!!!

Oh, one other thing, does anyone have the weight difference between a stock alternator, and the premanenet magnet one that Hugh's Handbuilt sells??

Fresh off the scales: my 19" stock aluminum rim without discs weighs exactly 12 lbs.

I believe the Dbl steel discs weigh in @ 7 lbs.

Making the whole stock alumin. "mag" wheel assembly weigh 19 lbs.

Weighed two wheels today: '82 Heritage front spoke w/single disc, 17lbs, '79 front mag w/single disc, no bearings or inner spacer, 17.6 lbs.

Wow! that's only slightly heavier than the spoke wheels. I thought there would be a huge difference in weight.

I'm building a cafe bike. No front brake is not an option.

I'd be curious to know just exactly how much weight Patches removed there, and if the wheels are in any way, shape or form, weaker than before.

I've got a handful of wheels siting in my garage so I decided to throw them on the scale. Didn't feel like taking the tires off though.

stock aluminum spoked 19 with 100/90/19, no discs - 21lbs
stock 19 mag with 100/90/19, no discs - 22.5lbs
stock 16 mag with 130/90/16, no disc or sprocket - 28lbs

also have an xs400 18" rear mag that I will weigh tomorrow.

I think the rotors are 6.5 pounds each. The rotor for the rear mag is 6 pounds. Sprocket 2 pounds, bearings half pound per mag.

I guesstimate the rear with a tire , bearings, rotor and sprocket is over 30 pounds. The front isnt far behind at roughly 27 pounds.
