What am I missing on my exhaust?

So I got these 2-1 pipes from a fellow xs650 forum guy. They were on a special he had, but I have to be missing something. He can't remember. First I have to bend them out to slip in the engine ports, but he said they always did that.

The issue is, they bottom out all the way inside. There has to be an insert, but I can't seem to find one, or likely I'm looking right at it and just am to stupid to know.

I'm hoping they can be found at the local parts store as a common sized adapter, but probably not.

No, but unless they are very sturdy, they would be crushed. I have the gaskets, but it seems like I need another piece that would drop in the 1 1/2" to 2" recess that the pipes meet up to. Mikes offers a piece that looks like what I need I'm just not sure.

I think I know what's going on, you don't need the torque inserts, you need a rolled-over cup kind of thing that goes on and into and over the end of the pipes. It should have come with the pipes when you bought them. To be sure, it would help if you posted a pic of the ends of your pipes and gave inside and outside diameters.

I bought them used, so I'll have to get some made. That's what I thought, thanks for confirming my suspicions.
