That is an interesting engine, what is it out of?

That engine was originally designed by Honda for Honda 50, 70 and 90cc trail bikes and Honda Cub street bikes. When Honda went to China they set up Honda-Lifan to make these engines for the Chinese market. Honda has since dissolved their partnership but Lifan lives on and because the patents have expired on that design, Lifan and a dozen or more Chinese companies now build that engine though Lifan is the only one to maintain quality control standards that compare with the Japanese manufacturers.

That engine is available in sizes from 50cc to 150cc.

The Honda Cub is the #1 best selling motorcycle in the entire history of motorcycles.

Moto-Guzzi made a 500cc engine that was similar in appearance and won lots of races. The low center of gravity provided great handling and they were apparently quite fast in their day.

A lot of people are using the Lifan's to restore and upgrade their old Hondas because they bolt in and come with electric start, electronic ignition and other features the older Hondas didn't have.

There's also a scooter version of this same engine that is used on step-thru scooters with CVT transmissions.

PS. There are several small US motorcycle manufacturers and at least 1 Canadian company that imports Lifan and other Chinese clones to put on their own frames. Three that come to mind are Kicker: http://www.kikker5150.com/hardknock.html Cleveland Cycle: http://www.clevelandcyclewerks.com/bikes/ and in Canada, Johnny Pag http://www.johnnypag.ca/ Apparently, Johnny Pag is using a brand other than Lifan as the EPA has stopped his US sales.

I happen to be a dealer for http://ezmotorbike.com/ which sells motorized bicycle kits with US made belt drive transmissions and Chinese engines. I have e-mailed your company dozens of times over the last 4 or 5 years hoping they would make us a suitable engine but never got a reply.

This design was used by Aermachi and Benelli. The Aermachi was baged as a Harley Sprint. The Benelli was 200cc and 250cc.

Ya know, I am not sure why they don't spread out into the market more. It couldn't hurt you would imagine?
