What Gas Tank Fits 1977?

I have a 1977 XS650 with a non DOT approved gas tank. I need to get it licensed so I want to install a stock tank. Will any year XS650 gas tank fit this bike?

Yes, the cheapest would be a "special" style.

He's right anything but early tanks will fit, the early (70-72) tanks are a little narrower inside the tunnel and might not clear the coils and such.

The gas tank is Omar's fiberglass street tracker tank and has a "Not DOT Approved" label on the underside. I live in California. I am assuming that this will be an issue when I register the bike. Does anyone have experience in this area?
