What have you done to your XS today?

The biggest time consumer is removing the side cover and this probably costs me 10 minutes including the foot rest and gear change. But time costs me nothing so I go for as much clear space as possible. If you ever unscrew the float bowl with the carbs still mounted then beware not to drop a screw because it will probably drop into the space behind the front sprocket. Then you will have to take the left side cover off.

I hope you get everything sorted for a final ride before Winter sets in.
Yay - got carbs off today, fiddly but not too bad with air boxes off. Would like to leave them off but don't want to get into the re-jetting malarkey.
Float bowl screws all undid easily & it looks clean in there. Removed left carb pilot jet (under a rubber bung) , which I am hoping is the problem, & find a jet with 3 holes in the side - all clear - but should there be a hole in the bottom as well? If so it's well bunged-up.

Polished some chrome this weekend, still some pock marks on the exhaust where the chrome has pitted off but it made a hell of a difference.

Yes and it's the tiniest little hole you ever saw.
I try to get them open with one strand from an automotive electrical wire.
I see it now (with a magnifying glass) & it seems clear - I put one stand through also.
Do you remember the pic I posted weeks & weeks ago after I 1st drilled the carb in the wrong place in that moment of madness? There were 2 small holes showing & you said I was the 1st to ever see them. Well, no, what that was, was the end of my drill bit that had snapped off in the carb. I got that out & thought the prob would be solved but it made no diff. Still nothing much on left cyl. Hence why carbs are off now. The hole I created is into the channel leading to the pilot jet. Now sealed off with small nail head. Was expecting to find something blocked with debris but nothing obvious yet.

Bit disappointed at how clean the carbs seem inside - not found any muck to clear out.
Been offered a free go at ultrasonic cleaning by a mate that had a small business specialising in the TTR250. Do you guys recommend that? Do the carbs just get dunked in whole?

Revisit an intake leak on that side? the rubber manifold (cracks, gasket seals vacuum barb issue) and throttle shaft seals are prime suspects. Many cleaning solutions will harden or shrink the rubber throttle shaft seals.

Manifolds look fine, removed lhs one for good look, vac barb is good too. Got to decide whether to go for the ultrasonic clean or just pop carbs back on & see if I've sorted it.

Put on my "XS650.com" shirt and got my gear on and rode "The SG" to my fav BF place and had a good time and meal. Also confirmed the tach/speedo don't work.....yet. That's a pic of the whole morning group over my RT shoulder. I'm in the back row.

I put the battery back in the XS650 turned on the choke and hit the starter button and it fired right up..... dropped a cylinder for a few seconds before I got the choke back off.....ran it will it was good and warm... then turned it off.... that was yesterday, today I hit the starter without the choke and it fired right up and purred like a kitten.....
every time I think about selling it I start it up and decide against it ! LOL i can't win ! I guess I better get licenses on it one way or another
if nothing else it will help sell it if I do decide to sell it ! .... I really need a dirt bike not a street bike !
.....

Hi Bob,
wrong again!
What you really need is a dirt bike for busting brush AND an XS650 for riding into town!
And a high speed super-highway long distance touring bike.
And a 1920s antique with a wickerwork bodied sidecar for Sunday afternoons.
At the very least.

Sell one of those horses! Buy 2 dirt bikes! Horses are unpredictable and dangerous!

Fred: Your right ! ... MORE BIKES...not LESS !!!! when I win the lotto that's what I'll do !
Griz: All those horses are already gone ..... they may well be slightly Unpredictable.... and Dangerous..... but they can be your best bud too!
to be greeted in the morning by a whinnie or knicker from the horses is one of those feelings that is hard to beat.
I do miss the Ranch life allot , but I do not miss all the work that comes with it ! HAHAHA! getting soft in my old age I guess!

Spent yesterday and today fabricating new subframe rails and installing them on the tracker build, then started fabricating a carbon fiber electronics tray, I think it will look good once fitted, sanded and cleared, then machined the sprocket adapter/spacer and all other spacers to install the 18 inch XS400 rear wheel on the tracker with the CB500T sprocket.

^That's such a cool chop Denisesewa! It's got a killer stance. What's the rake on that??
I don't know the rake, the frame was given to me because it was welded together crooked and deemed a lost cause, took me a week or so to get it straight and true, the fork tubes I had laying around , they were 6" over and I shortened them to 4" over to get the right attitude. Thanks for the comps!

Went to ride Lucille today and fuel was pissing out of the overflow tubes. I gave her a couple of clouts with a screwdriver handle but no-go.

So....I just placed an order with Boats.net for a set of OEM Yamaha float valves & seats.

Sigh.....
