What have you done to your XS today?

Here are some of the usual suspects, photo courtesy of Gary.

And a little light reading with lots of photos,

I finally attached the chrome ring and lower black ring on my Mikes gauges. Yes, I bad mouthed them, but I was able to glue the needles on, and they still work. After many years of planning this feat, I settled on Clear Silicone Adhesive. It should be vibration roof. Yeah right, on an XS, there is no such thing as vibration proof!.
I did manage to find a knob that works.

Relief is soooo good. super happy I did it. I added some weird swirls around the oil filter cap since the cap is a weird face lol

loooook soooooo coooooool!, Im going to post some photos of the leather work you asked about, can you PM me with a few pics of the seat. and I can give a guestemate on doing leather work. it would be the biggest "canvass" ive ever worked with, and its an opertunity to do something amazing, I can just feel it,

Last weekend I finally connected on a deal for this 78E green tank. Today at work the vacuum petcock function tests using solvent in the otherwise dry almost perfectly clean inside tank proved to be a go! Just a tad of solvent left in there as this tank will now stay put in storage right here at work until that day comes for the 78E
This tank paint is not perfect. It does have a few expected scratches and very minor dents. The tank inside cleanliness and the visible/functional condition of the petcocks is really the bonus having never before found an XS with such a usable tank.
Very fortunate !

Congrats Randy! She’s a beauty, I can’t wait to see it all come together!

Good luck finding emblems for that new tank. '78 emblems are rare as hens teeth.

Oh ya, I have 4 78 badges for 2 tanks. But what was really hard to part with last summer were those 79F Tank badges. Those are 78E badges plus Chrome gold trim !
I left them on that so stock 79F that sold But wish I "traded" before hand...

Today, I changed out the shock springs on my Øhlins TR46 shocks. These shocks are made for the air cooled "New Bonneville", and turned out to have overly stiff springs for an XS. As the Bonnie is pretty much the same weight as an XS, the geometry (shock mount locations) must be a bit different.
Anyway, these shocks came with #00480-03 springs (18-27 N/mm). The new springs are #00480-01 (15-24 N/mm) Which hopefully let me use more spring preload. And they also were 111 g lighter each, which gives around half a pound saved weight, half of it unsprung. Not much, but a nice "side effect" of hopefully improved rear suspension. But it will be at least 3 months before I get to test ride the bike with these new shock springs. Right now, I have 4 feet of snow and -15C at my house.......

I drew for 3 minutes, then engraved for 3 hours, with a touch of relief for 3 minutes lol. Going to do more work to it though. Should I add a small pots leafs? :smoke:
