What have you done to your XS today?

The day after I took photo’s for the 2021 calendar, I leaned the bike too far (while stationary) to check if the choke was still on and down she went. Funny thing is, the first thing I did (and do with any embarrassing moment) was to check to see if anyone saw me do it. It resulted in a broken mirror and a couple of battle scars, but it’s all fixed up now.

Matched a Lot Better in the Garage
Wanting to use my nice '83 factory paint tank and thought the purple side covers might match the maroon on the tank. Looked close in the garage but in the sun, no. Will switch to black side covers.

Lots of Wakeup Steps For This One!
Looks like a job for the cold months.

October 2nd lol.. Beautiful weather and garage sorting found the 79 XS "Doomy" out in the driveway. So this is how it sits after that long stale summer.
Anyway, the tank, 78E petcocks, Next set of BS38'S, all got some premium alcohol free fuel and the start up went kinda like this-
Fuel in tank and the petcocks are sealing fine. Yes. Next try the petcocks function. Prime, Res, working as should. Next prime the BS38'S bowls with the drains out. Clean.
Next Seal it all up and hand turn the engine over a few revs. Next hook up the battery without even charging it lol. Next.. Birkenstocks on, towel for a seat, Kick it up in ONE kick! Adjust idle... Go for a test ride
:)

This XS runs like a dream and doesn't leak a drop. Its sitting in the drive. Im waiting for any leaks to show but its just being pretty.
I need two matching front brake lines up to the splitter and a very short line to the master cylinder and that darn seat mount fabrication done. All in fun today -RT

Hey @Machine, I wish you could come here and kick my a$$ into gear on these projects! Tomorrow, I start on garage reorganization. I can’t see the forest through the trees. Four XS650s and three XS1100s and only one bike running. I envy those of you getting it done and I want to be more like you. In my defense, I have been very busy doing what my employer pays me to do. Lucky me!

I hear what your talking about!
I guess we all have our cross to bear. I do believe that riding a motorcycle is good for the soul. To a similar degree, so is working on one. Unfortunately, in this life, other responsibilities come first. Still, I think I have a lot of room for improvement in all of the above.

True enough Marty. My daughter's wedding was Friday with family party yesterday. Up until this afternoon I have been busy working (and paying for) the Big Day. Happy to report all went very well and now I am looking at all the MC projects I have been putting off. The Xs650 is running great so I think I will pivot to the KZ400 or maybe, the cop bike that has been my nemesis for three years.

After 3 hrs of wiring up new ballasts and changing fluorescent bulbs (the ones I had were the same ones that Thomas Edison had in his shop while he invented the light bulb):umm: Since I can now see in the dark I got a little something done today. Made tabs for the Chinky Shock and bent the main support hoop for the monoshock suspension. Much simpler than the Dog Bone/Triangle Pivot type I did on the last build. Tomorrow I`ll make upright supports for the monoshock hoop, set the ride height, bevel the edges and tack weld it in place. Then I`ll get started on bending the rear frame tubes that tie it all in to the main center tube. Then all the frame gussets, seat hoop and supports, motor and tank mounts and the "list" never ends.
