What have you done to your XS today?

HooWee! That’s a nice looking lid Rob! Is that a new model? I’ve never seen it. I thought I was looking at reflections of something on the top, then I realized it was vent holes. Snappy visor too! That’s Bad Ass!
It’s a Bell Eliminator. Been around a few years. It’s got a certain auto racing vibe about it. Also has a peak visor I can run if if rather just go with sunglasses and no visor. I’ve been looking for a decent full face for a while and been wanting this one for a bit. I just had to pinch some pennies and sell some parts to afford it.

Last fall I "heard" here online that to clean the starter connection a guy needed to drain the engine oil and remove the starter
:umm:
Well today I actually rearranged the garage and got the 79 Special II out of hibernation to the driveway and took a good look under the engine.
Um.. one 10mm wrench and a bent neck vertebrae is all it takes to disconnect the starter cable for the connection cleaning..
Unfortunately by the time it took to realize and do this a rain storm came so I didn't get the spring engine start up.
But hey, the starter connection is clean and the battery charged up in a few minutes flat so maybe this thing will start in two kicks tomorrow?

You? Lol :lmao:
Maybe.. I don't really care about the electric start but it is nice to have as a functioning feature.
Just need to flow fuel through the petcocks and carbs to prove function and give it a startup. Woulda in the garage but my phone kept ringing by my daughters and GF..
Jeez females take away a lot of motorcycle time
:)

That's what my '78 needed when I got it, the starter was "dead". It was just that connection being all rusty. Cleaned it up and it's worked fine ever since. There's supposed to be a protective rubber boot over it. Mine was there but split. I replaced it with a good used one.

Yes, that boot needs to be in good working order. It hangs upside down. If it's split or damaged, it just becomes a little 'bucket' that catches all the dirt and moisture slung at it My boot had a little slit where the wire ran through it. Wasn't very big.... just big enough.

Yes, that connection is in a bad spot, subject to all the dirt and water the road can (and will) throw up at it.

Between rain storms Saturday, the 79 Special proved out its overall very healthy engine in the driveway. Dry carbs since many months ago storage. 3rd kick first start is nice.
The custom seat fabrication is getting very close to rideable now. I've made 3 or four steel shaped brackets which hold the seat pan real firm both front and rear.
The seat length and shape is noticeable?
The next test ride with a seat will be a level several mile long waterfront Park road.
Possibly late Sunday.

Yeah, that seat looks sized more for a kid, not a full grown adult. Looks "stiff" too, lol.

Between rain showers I got the 79 run tested out pretty good. It still needs finishing cosmetically (side covers next) but the engine runs tuned like a champion, even through 5th gear. The handlebar and riding position is Awesome!
2021 tags from my sold F150 lol, no front brake line from the MC to the splitter. Still, even in the rain this was a pleasurable day!
New (to me) riding gear.

Ran very good ! Hardly a drip anywhere. Made it home in the rain.
