Who's up for a game of "what's that sound?"

Try warming the bike up, then adjust it at idle. Look for about 1-2mm in and out movement of the pin.
 
Yes, flush when it kicks out and 1-2mm in when it moves in. It will bounce back and forth. If it stays flush while running, it's too tight.
 
Yes. Once you get to flush or slightly protruding, you're just stretching the chain past that point. That's why you want to see that 1-2mm movement.... to make sure you don't have too much tension on it. once that's sorted, I'd go back and recheck the valve clearances. What did you set them at?
