Why explore space?

I was always a fascinated with the whole Gemini / Apollo space program. But what really fired up my imagination was Carl Sagans Cosmos TV special series. He was so brilliant and he had such a way of explaining complex and hard to grasp concepts, he was part scientist , part poet, part romantic and his enthusiasm was infectious.
He opened my eyes to the theory of relativity, time and space, the vastness of the universe and our place in it.

“We are made of Steller ash. Our origin and evolution have been tied to distant cosmic events. The exploration of the cosmos is a voyage of self discovery.”
