wire guage

What is the wire gauge for the Battery positive terminal feed to the solenoid for a 1977 XS650D.

#16 gauge wire will work quite well.

Edit: Oops..................I took your qestion to mean the small wire that operates the starter relay coil. If you mean the large cable that supplies the very large current to the starter motor itself, then I agree with Leo...............#8 gauge likely OK but # 6 gauge is better for less voltage drop.

Are you talking the heavy cable that carries the power to crank the starter? The one that goes on the big stud, or the small wires that come off with plug in connectors?
If you mean the small wires 16 ga is ok.
On the big studs, stock is like 10 or 8 ga. I use 6 ga. I also run an extra ground from one of the starter bolts straight to the battery negative.

Correct XSLeo. I was a little confused for a bit there till i looked at the SM. The control voltage wires are 16 awg. the connection between the positive battery terminal and the starter is 8awg.
