xs 650 engines

Is there a model year that is better than another, or are all 650 engines the same?

70-73 are the same and 74-83 are the same. They are all pretty much the same as far as mounting, the internals were changed in 73/74. Seems like more parts are available for the later ones. The earlier ones have a hotter cam, from what I've heard. 80+ came with electronic ignition.

Condition is more important than year. 80 up have the TCI ignition system. but they can be swapped either way.
