How hard is it to put a 79 xs1100 tank onto an 81 Special II?
Anyone got any pics?
I like the shape of it over the stock one. Also its much larger and I feel would fit the size of the stock seat as well. Kind of balance the seat to tank ratio

I just typed in "XS1100 tank on an XS650" and I found the photo below.

I wonder though - is that an 1100 tank or tank engine from an XS750 or maybe an XS850?

The tank in the photo of the previous post is XS750. The XS1100 has a double backbone. The tunnel in the tank is twice as wide as the XS650. While it looks big, it really does not hold a lot of fuel. IMHO, there are far better choices for an XS650 than the XS11 tank. It would take a lot of fabricating for very little gain.

Lotsa info on this site regarding 750 tank swap. It is longer than stock 650 tanks, so you would need to shorten your stock seat in the front if you're keeping it.

Hi JoshieKona,
It'd take a deal of work for little or no good purpose..
Marty's photo shows the XS11 tank's super-wide tunnel which limits the XS11 Special tank's capacity to 3.95 US Gallons.
That's a little less capacity than the 4.0 US Gallon XS650 Standard tank that'll drop straight on.

Looks like i'll be passing on this one. Just asking cuz I found one for $20 and was seeing if it was worth it. Probably hold out for a 750 or 850.

Thanks everyone

Hi Joshie,
$20 for an XS11 Special tank is a total bargain, but only if you need one.
If you are interested in wheeling and dealing you'd easily double your money posting it for sale in the XS11 site's parts for sale column.
