On the recent series of The Motorbike Show - it was the tenth anniversary series - Henry Cole restored a Bimota.

Said he had been lusting after a Bimota ever since he first saw one in a shop window when he was at school. Then one came up for sale and he took his friend Sam Lovegrove with him to see the feller selling it. Sam's the expert on the techie side, plus being the sensible second pair of eyes. Of course, the Bimota was not fully original, not fully complete. Sam was still giving the bike a look over but Henry says to the man, 'How much are you asking?' Feller names his price, Henry sticks out has hand and they shake.

Sam's face was a picture. But, but . . . Henry says, 'These don't exactly come up for sale very often, it's what I wanted, had to have it.'
I really only lust after the early ones for the late 70s Kawi 550, Honda 750 etc. I don't really want liter bike performance. Did they build one for an XS? :)

That is a dangerous bike the mileage is much too high in my view
I would hesitate to buy a bike over 30 000 miles and do it only if it was an interesting one.
That one realistically need some service electrical and with that mileage the suspection is there that it is getting close to a major engine overhaul
a `??? $ 1000
I don't know how popular it is but I would expect $ 1000 $ 1200 here and that is if no smoke and rattle with compression

i get the impression that you pay more for small bikes that no one is interested in here . 500 cc and upwards has been the norm
( Generally Speaking ) the triples i believe would have interest But I have heard about problems with parts

Ironhead sportsters i believe is more expensive here.

This is the one to have! Big headlight! I have over 100K on my XS11. It still goes like a freight train!

I agree that 80k is high. But with care it might be fine. That bike has longer gearing than the Seca 750 with accompanying lower revs at highway speeds. I sold my Seca 650 (that exact bike) in '91 with 50k miles on it. It was as strong and tight as the day it was new. I did have an oil cooler, regular oil changes, valve clearance checked and set every 5 to 7k miles, Koni shocks and good rubber. That was the hottest 650 on the market until Honda's "new" 650 Nighthawk came out 2 months after I bought the Seca.

Rule Britannia. :laugh2:

1977, Private Schoweilller from St Paul Minnesota takes his enlistment bonus and buys 2 brand new in the crate 1974 (?) Triumph 750s from a St Paul dealer. One delivered to his parents home, one delivered to Fort Bliss Texas. I never had the opportunity to ride his Triumph but later, he let me ride his then newer Norton 860 Comando while he followed on my XS. Sadly/Happily there was beer involved and we took a cautious 10 or 15 minute ride through some winding roads at prudent speeds. That Norton had a lovely motor and we had just enough beer to not be stupid.
