XS650 Top End Oil Pressure Gauge

FYI, the flowrate remains the same irregardless of bypass valve...
Right; I wasn't really thinking and was making like the bypass detoured it to the sump.

Maybe you can answer this question -- looking at schematics, it looks like oil goes from the sump, through the sump filter, through the pump, through the side filter, in that order. I see lots of pictures of debris in the side filter with no mention of a hole in the sump filter. How do you explain that? Is the side filter that much finer than the sump filter?

Yeah, those pics of crud-loaded side filters totally blow me away. Basically, I just cringe and tell myself that there's 40+ years of neglect.

The OEM wire mesh filters down to 150 micron. The aftermarket filters I've measured have a wire mesh that filters down to 350 microns.

There's no way that junk in the sidefilters could get in there, unless the sump filter was torn, or missing. The senior members here have reported a lot about torn sump filters being a common malady, so that's gotta be it.

Absolutely amazing some of the huge chunks found in there.
And, that they made it thru the oil pump...

So the new manufactured filter lets bigger particles through? Seems counter intuitive, that's why I am asking.

Gads, it's been what, 7 years, since mounting those gauges?
Plenty of time to get oil pressure info, so now time for a declutter, pull those 2 gauges, and mount the small Spectre gauge mentioned in post #38:

Here's the before, with those 2 gauges off to the side:

And the after:
Mini-gauge with gear indicator tucked between the instruments...

You do good work!

Pete

Nice, is the newly located gauge top end or side case? Also I never noticed a gas cap like that. Is that home made?
