Yam_Tech314's official build thread

Yes, I guess you could say that. You can get them clean as a whistle like this, especially the lower bottoms where all the sludge is sitting.

As far as fork seals go, many times a slight leaker is only doing that because it's dirty. Dirt gets forced down into the seal over time and with use. Just cleaning it out will often times "fix" it.

Am I crazy, or are the front and rear hydraulic calipers the same...?

Good evening guys...

My girlfriend made one hell of a cool discovery that I'm almost certain no one caught...

If anyone HONESTLY had an inclination that my seat was original please speak up because you've got a good eye.

In pics of my bike in it's early stages you can see the big honking BSA seat on it... Or SO WE THOUGHT. but take a closer look at the lines...

What do you all think about this???

It looks like somebody put a cover on it that almost fit
Check out your pan for a match to this-

Good news.
You may want to peel that cover off and find that your original torn cover is under it. We can see the “piping” seam making the outline of the original cover in your pic :umm:
Re covering the repaired seat foam is really not too bad of a job.

I have a confession to make...

Already did that the night I posted the pics but I wanted to build anticipation.

It's definitely not in good shape but it's salvageable.

My original comment was to ask if anyone on here, anyone at all... noticed the original seat hiding under the BSA cover before lastnights original post.

No one ever mentioned it so I'm sure it went unnoticed.

So the seat pan is metal. I don't know why that surprised me given when it was made... But the metal isn't in great shape. So I carefully took the seat apart, and was able to successfully separate the foam from the pan. Gonna blast, paint, and rebuild. I think it's important to be as thorough as possible, and since it's needing new skin, why not make it right?

Bonus picture of my bored brother because his face is hilarious.

While working on your seat, you might consider a gel pad cut to insert between the old foam and the seat cover. I saw a couple of different thickness of 25x25 inch raw gel material on Banggood and am looking into doing that myself over the winter.......
