Note: these ain't your dad's America's Cup boats. They literally fly on airfoils, and can do 2.5X wind speed. In 2007 average speeds were 10 knots. Now it's 40 (add about 10% for mph). The fastest of this class boats has reached 55mph! in Moto terms, power to weight ratio has increased by an order of magnitude in the last decade. That's like replacing our 50 RWHP with a new engine capable of 500 HP.
We did quite a bit of sailing (hence, my screen name), seems like a lifetime ago. Actually met Dennis Conner once, the larger than life skipper who lost, then won back, the Americas Cup Trophy a few decades ago. Dang, I'm getting old...
