There's 2.5 quarts of oil sitting inside that cover. Go ahead and remove it without draining the oil first, and let us know what happens, lol.

You can lean the bike over on the LH side. Put down cardboard or carpet scraps, have a 5 gallon bucket or similar to hold the handle bar end up, ready before you start.
