Luthor's Build

Shifter in. As for the shifter, I could've restored the previous one I had but the spline was all fucked up so I decided to order a new one from MikesXS.

Now to wait for more parts in the mail. Thank you all for the positive feedback!

Man you are one organised guy. I'm gonna have to borrow some of that skill in my workshop! The paper trick is great for keeping it all in check. Subbed.:D

You're right. It was not centered. I was just presenting the parts etc, before final torque. But thanks for pointing it out regardless. It's always good to know there are enthusiasts keeping an eye. 2 more days until I get some stuff from MikesXS and I can place the cylinders and work on the valves, etc.

nice pics! good that you're staying organized.

i noticed in the above pic that your front cam chain guide doesn't look centered. maybe you didn't have it tightened down yet. just thought i would point that out before you put it back together.

good luck!

damn jealous of your engine nook. i love the engine accents in black, i may steal this from you when im ready to paint. keep up the killer work!

Great work man. Even more impressive, the organization. I'm getting ready to start my engine teardown and you have some GREAT pictures! thanks for posting and keep us updated! I might even have some PM for ya...

Hey SolidLex everything looks great!!
I'm going to be using the smaller Harbor Freight Blast cabinet too and was wondering what media you used and recommend for blasting the case halves, Cylinders n such?
Man Keep rocking this build Thread!
Thanks for any suggestions on media.

You're more than welcomed man. The crankcase covers will be powder coated flat black as well. Need to do a bit more research on where to cut/shape to go with on the left side cover. Something about that damn flap that can kill the engine look. And after seeing how much crap was stuck in there when I started tearing it down I'm definitely making holes in there for when the baby needs to be washed.

"Bag & Tag" is the way to go. Also, a camera comes in VERY HANDY in case you have issues reading the diagrams on the manual. Lets face it, the pictures on those books are shitty and the diagrams online have bad quality too, even on a 55" monitor. "Airwolfie" has a nice thread that I've been following and he's been super kind in replying messages. Thumbs up for that guy.

If you have the space, say a garage for example, I would buy the bigger one because if you want to replace the media it will be easier to just put a bucket underneath, open the thing and let it fall. I went with the small one and I had to remove the 8 cylinder studs in order to be able to fit the part inside the cabinet. As for media, I bought 2 25lb fine glass bead. Make sure you wash/dry the parts BEFORE and AFTER the blast. Learn from my mistakes. Glass beads get mixed with oil or gunk VERY easily and it will add to the blasting time significantly. Also, not sure what your set up will be, but I would invest in a good respirator. I went with the one HF has as well (can't remember the price) since I don't have a vacuum attached to the blasting cabinet (I'm blasting stuff on the balcony of my apt., 3rd floor). :yikes:

This has to be the most organized, cleanest, and well photographed build thread in the history of the internet! Attention to detail is an understatement! Great job!

So after waiting for my stuff to come in the mail like a kid waiting on Christmas, I finally got the 2 piston pin clips so I could finish the cylinders. I'm so digging the flat black.

Here's pretty much everything laid out.

Gave it another blast inside the cabinet, cleaned it and now I was ready to lap some valves.

New valve seals of course.

I didn't take pics of the laps before and after being lapped but they were pretty good to begin with and we all know what they look like anyway.

New valve springs & collets.

May I suggest getting one of these if you don't have any?

Shit. I discarded # 8 by accident and I've tried finding it online but no luck. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Yup! Cleaned, media blasted, cleaned, lapped the valves. I got stuck without part # 8 since it's not available anywhere and I was dumb enough to discard it. However, I just found a set on eBay for $25, and they appear to be in good shape. Hopefully they will be here by next Wednesday when I get my next shipment of goodies from MikesXS.

did you lap in those valves after media blasting their seating surfaces ?

Looking AWSOME !!!

It looks like all your extra time is paying off for you. I love the look with the flat black accents on the clean aluminum.
