All,

I recently had a copy of the always broken press-in drain elbows made for a restoration Im doing for a friend. My local job-shop machinist made them out of brass. We made a few extras for now, and I will sell them to anyone who needs a pair. Im using them on the SOLEX carb bowls with the 1/8th in. pressfit hole.

They are made here in the USA, and are "pre-production", meaning that the ends are correctly sized but some of the bodies may be taller or shorter than each other a bit as we have not dialed in the optimal lengths and widths of the parts yet. I will bag up pairs and sell them for $35 if anyone wants them, and will update when we have more, standardized runs made. If there is sufficient interest.

Thanks. Mez.

Mez, are those intended to replace this overflow fitting?

Another opportunity, we have had several inquiries about suitable replacements for the fuel interconnect fittings at the inner sides of early BS38 carb bodies.

Yes Sir. The bottom of the float bowl. We haven't made a run of the larger side elbows yet but can do it sooner if there is demand.

...and heres one pressed into an early 80s bowl. I use a 1/8th drill bit (which is always a bit smaller than 1/8") and the 1/8" brass tube is a 64th or so over, and press fit it in. Any questions or suggestions, feel free to post. thx. Mez

2M,

I'll be out at the Harvest Festival on the 20th of this month. Not sure where you live around Fredericksburg, but if you are around, maybe we can get together and work up some idea for bigger brass elbows or other machined items you or your customers may be wanting.

I’d be interested in a pair of those fittings and if they fit BS34s - I’d take two sets.

Pete, I have two pair of the bottom drain brass elbows, not the larger ones that 2M was interested in.
The bottom fit ones measure 1/8" in. where they press in, and the picture you see above is a generic 80s float bowl I bought online for a test and it pressed in and is pretty firmly seated.

I will do $25 a pair (plus combined shipping) if you dont mind one of the elbows being a bit shorter in the height profile, but fully functional.

They are all parted off the lathe a bit imperfectly as well as we are still dialing in the process in hopes of some longer runs. As mentioned, the larger side elbows are in the works.

Please let me know, to be 100% certain, which ones you are interested in. Thx.

Float bowls differ over the years..............The previous pic in post no #4 is off a set of BS34's. I have a set of 38's 78-79 and there is no drain hole in the bowls and the earlier bowls 76-77 and 74-75 differ again

If the intention is to use the fittings to test float height, the inside diameter of the plastic tubing is recommended to be 6mm

Thanks for the feedback. I was simply replacing the overflow elbows that are always broken, as the plastic has become brittle with age. The elbow is simply to drain any overflow or drained fuel like the original plastic/brass OEM parts. The many years of built in or non .125 diameter drain solutions are out of my realm of solution. Thanks again.

Hey Mez. This is DocDave. I am restoring a 1970 xs650 and looking for the side elbow you mentioned in this thread from last year. Let me know if you have any suggestions. Thx for your consideration

Doc, I haven't made a run of the larger elbows yet. I'll need to get one or get the dimensions for the machinist to copy. Are you looking for 1 pair?

OldSchool, are those brass tips available for purchase somewhere? I have those plastic elbows, they are all intact, but full of cracks.

I have a few of the 1/8th press-fit pieces for the bottom overflow tubes oldskool. I can't remember if the upper ones are bigger where they fit into the carb body...

The smaller ones... if anyone can give me the hose connection size on the larger side elbows, I'll be commissioning a batch soon
