I thought I'd revive WingedWheel's Clubhouse thread idea here in the Lounge.
Hope he doesn't mind. Creds to him.

So, today I was cleaning out some drawers and transfering the stuff to a new tool chest in the winter workroom.

Came across this simple item which brought back a lot of memories. Hadn't seen one in maybe 20 or more years.

Do you know what it is?

Forget the little rod. I'm digging that vintage looking, brass edged yard stick. I'll bet it's the older piece!

Ok my guess is a clutch alignment aid / home made tool? It's probably been shoved up the business end of a VW Bug if I know you!

The award goes to Azman !

When the shadetree VW mechanic bought a hi-quality pump, they provided a new rod, so we ended up with spares hanging around in the shop.
#1 in the diagram.

Don't forget, there are 2 different sizes on the rod. Short and long.
Don't mix them up (cough) a friend told me.;)

I had to sand down the flange on my '71 last spring due to it getting fuel lock. The rod would get stuck in there.
Ah, yes, Bill, (cough) I do recall now that size matters on these rods !...:)

You have a '71 Bug ?

Adapter for a VW engine for Type 2 or 3 rear engine mount ? Perhaps I'm wrong on this, but the pushrod in question is of the the long one for 40 hp to 1600cc dualport engines. Short rods were for the 36hp and earlier.

I will admit to being a VW enthusiast for decades. Built a few engines and owned a few Type 1 beetles and a '78 Westy Camper in the past. Still have a formidable collection of factory, Haynes and other maint manuals....

One day in the early 80's I did a swap:
- I wanted the bug engine from the '68 to go into the '70 bug,
- and the '70 bug engine into my '69 Bus,
- and the 71 bug engine into the 67 Ghia,
and the '69 bus engine into a 66 bug for my girlfriend's daughter.Which she wrapped around a telephone pole within the week.
......I think I got that right......o_O
Got all the swaps done in an afternoon.
