late last year I sat on my couch, I was a tiny bit annoyed since someone else had just bought the xs 750 I thought I was supposed to buy as my winter project. So there I sat, annoyed at myself for not have been quicker out the door, quietly scrolling through different online marketplaces until I stumbled upon an add, it was an XS 650 from 1972 with no pictures in the add and not a very descriptive text. This time I thought to myself that I had to be quicker out the door, even if I wasn't sure it was the bike I wanted, remembering the xs 650 was the bike I always wanted, even before my xs 400. At 10 pm I send the first message to the seller, who had only just put up the add an hour earlier, asking for some pictures and some more information on the bike. At 10:30 pm I received the first message back with pictures and a little more information. The bike was a xs 2 from 1972, it had been sitting in his loft for around twenty years, it was completely disassembled and missing a front wheel, crankshaft, pistons, and cylinder but the seat was pretty!
A few messages later the price went down to 350£ and I was on my way on a one and a half hour drive at 11 pm in my neighbors roomy Ford Galaxy, I was forced to go immediately as people kept messaging the seller, offering more money than me, but this time I wouldn't be late, this was my time to get the bike first.
The clock was showing 2 am when I was finally back home again with multiple boxes and the frame of an xs 2 from 1972, needless to say, I didn't get much sleep that night despite the fact that had to be at work at 8 am the same day I returned from my treasure hunt, since the excitement which brought me singing in the car on my way back home hadn't worn off just yet.

I hope my story didn't bore you, here's a small video of my current state:

I've gotten hold of all new bearings throughout the engine, an original xs 2 crankshaft, cylinders, and tank and now preparing the engine for vapor blasting before the assembly of the engine. I'm going for the JE pistons 707cc pistons, I'm currently figuring out the shipping as it is costly to ship anything from the states to Denmark, and there apparently isn't anyone in Europe selling big bore pistons for the 256 engine.

Welcome to the site!!!
Looks like the start of a fun project. Keep us updated.

Welcome. Looks like a fun project.
You will never bore us with a build thread if you post a bunch of pictures.
Lets see a photo of that Ford Galaxy !!

Check out these guys. http://stores.ebay.com/cruzinimage-co1484 Lots of good cheap quality parts, (link to a thread on these pistons), they don't have the Oversize 700cc 256 kits but have 447 and Euro 553 706cc kits.

You will need to access cruzinimage site from your country or else the Ebay add specifies they wont sell to you from a US or Aus linked add.

Front wheel is problematic. XS2 had a one year only set of front forks/front wheel hub and front brake rotor. Unless your going for a exact restoration a 73TX 650 front end looks exactly the same unless a perfectionist looks at it.

And hey! You've got some skills making videos! What are the other bikes under covers in the video? Is that in your home?

Thanks for the warm welcoming!
more pictures you say? here a few of those I was originally sent by the seller:

And to show a few of the boxes I picked up:

The engine was sandblasted by the previous owner, which left a very rough surface, which is the reason I want to vapor blast it, but before doing so I have to clean the engine, which I'm currently doing first with diesel and engine degreaser and now with a soda blaster. Here are a few pictures of one of the cases almost done.

I'm so lucky that a welder who has an aquanife vapor blaster is located next door to the garage I'm part of, which I'm going to lend sometime next week.
unfortunately, I have to have part of the engine welded beforehand, as the previous owner tried to separate the engine cases with a screwdriver and broke a small patch off...:

I like to visualize my ideas through both photoshop and drawings, so here are two drawings of ideas I have:

And since one of the other guys in the garage have an xs 650, I stole his seat to get inspiration ;) (with the tank I was sold with the bike)

I will try to keep updating you, possibly through videos as it's fun and easy to do these short clips - if you want to keep up, I'm posting picture more often on Instagram as @Ketchuppusher
Until next time keep cool and enjoy a cup of tea :bike:

There are a few options when you want to import anything from the states, but it usually ends up in almost twice the price you paid in the first place :poo:
I think I'm going to have to buy the pistons from Hoos Racing, as I need the 256 pistons and no one else offer them.
I know a guy who has an original XS2 front wheel for sale, might consider buying his. The problem is that I'm also considering mounting upsidedown forks, and can't quite make up my mind.

Thanks Mailman
I will I will.
I have already talked to Heiden tuning, but they can't and won't help me get the Pistons I need and there are plenty of other xs 650 suppliers both in Denmark and neighboring countries.

Much appreciated

Well that sounds like a very cool collective garage you share there. It's nice to be with like minded individuals who can give you a hand sometimes.
By the way, I just started following your Instagram page!

I just had the lower engine case welded, getting ready to weld a beginning crack in the following days and afterward vapor blast the entire engine.
pictures of the result, still need some finishing, but it'll get there.

So this one won't be restored?

As a start, it will be restored back to original with the only exception of being bored up to 707cc, which I will ride for most of the year. After having ridden the bike as original as I want to make it, I will get a shorter seat and fender in a similar style to Hageman's yardbuilt xs 650.

Just received a new cam chain from xs650shop.de - great packing! even though it's just a chain it was well tucked in with paper
When I ordered the gear bearings from yambits.co.uk they were all loose inside the box and the gaskets were bent so much they almost cracked...
Great job xs 650 shop :D:thumbsup:

I have had that happen also where there are heavy part just throne into a box and everything is damaged by the time you get it. Im kinda surprised you will not keep it stock after you restore it. It would suspect an XS2 is very rare in Denmark. Just stand back and look at the stock bike. If you do change things hopefully you will keep the original parts and not cut the frame so it can be changed back to stock easily later. Good luch with you build.
XS2 a thing of beauty
