My favorite planes (in no particular order) :

P-38 Lightning (so cool)
P-61 Black Widow (fer shure! The Lightning's badass big sister from another mister)
B-2 Bomber (how can you not love something that looks like the Batplane?)
OV-10D Bronco (little badass)
C-5 Galaxy (everybody loves big. Great plane, was told it was a bitch to work on...)
SR71 (alone, unarmed, untouchable. flying on the fringe of space)
DC-3/C-47 (quite possibly a perfect machine)
P-6M Martin Seamaster (never put into production, a Cold-War jet sea plane, outran fighter chase planes during testing)
Burt Rutan's Voyager (not a military plane, but too cool not to be on the list)
V-22 Osprey (whadya mean, straight up?!)

There are so many, it's hard to play favorites. I'm sure I missed a bunch that should've made the list...

My first solo was in a Cessna 150H. I knew at that moment I had to have a Low Wing plane.
My favorites,
P-51
DC-3
Lockheed Constellation
P-38
B-52
Piper PA-28 Cherokee
Piper Dakota
Mooney M-20
Stearman PT-17
Starduster "TOO"
Air Tractor 502
Lets face it! Just about anything that`ll get off the ground.

Just 10? Lesssee…..
P-51 It's doing 400kph tied down on the ramp .It was so advanced for it's day. When they married the RR Merlin engine in it, Superfighter
P-39/63. Should have put a turbo or supercharger in it. Russians loved it and had many aces with them.I liked the lines. I wonder what a Merlin would have done in her.
B-17 Earned its place in history. Great looking plane. Pistons and props and BIG round engines baby!
F-16. Great looking. Easy to work on. Saw my first one 40 yrs ago. (wait 40! Geezz 1979 at Lakenheath. It was from Hill AFB.) Still kickin butt where it needs too.
A-10 BRRRRRRRRRRTTTT another tank bites the dust....30mm gatling gun takes care of business. If that's not enough 11 station to hang 500lb er bombs from. 45 yrs old and can bring the heat to the bad guys.
B-52 When the bad guys don't understand the situation, bring her to the party.
A/B-26 Invader 3 war vet. Need I say more...
DC-3 83 yrs old and she can't be replaced. Pleasing lines and makes nice noises. 3 war vet also. Berlin airlift vet too.
Gatta go for now.
I'm back now..
Boeng 707 not the first jet airliner but, the first one I flew on.
747 Massive for the time. like the cruisliner of the air. I flew in one coast to coast.
DH-4 Trainer, bomber and cheap barnstormer. Early airmail plane.

^^ Yup. The initial carrier landing tests on the Corsair did no go well. They wound up strengthening the undercarriage considerably.
Tale I heard was that US pilots had trouble landing Corsairs on carriers because that big ol' engine blocked their view of the ship.
Brit pilots flew 'em in kinda sideways and straightened out at the last minute.

Only 10? That's not fair.... :(
Cessna 150. Same reason as Gary
F-111. To this day there ain't a jet that could hang with her down in the weeds.
F-4. Phantom. A pain in the ass to work on. Took a real mechanic to keep her flying
P-51. 'Nuff said....
Supermarine Spitfire. See P-51
X-15. An airplane/rocket made from nickel. Whooda thunk it.
SR-71. (I'm gonna cheat the limit here)... and anything else made by Kelly Johnson.
DeHavland Mosquito. 400kts. in a wooden airplane. Are you kidding....
P-61 Black Widow. Badass
Northrop F-5. A baby fighter. First flew in the late 50's. Still on active duty. Take that Buff fans.;)

Yes, I remember reading that too, now that you mention it.

Well, I figured if I didn't put a limit on it, we'd wind up with a list of everything on the planet with wings and a motor...

I went to the AF Museum in Dayton a few years ago. Overwhelming. My favorite part?

I stood in line behind the kiddies and took my turn planting my butt in the driver's seat of the F4 cockpit they had on display. I refrained from making airplane sounds, but it took everything I had...

Interesting thread and it is fun to look at other folks lists! Here’s mine:
  • DeHavilland Mosquito (400 kts, 2 guys and a couple of gallons of glue = evening fun over Europe!!)
  • DeHavilland Hornet (like the Mosquito - but more!)
  • Republic F105 Thunderchief (sexy looks and perfect for goindowntown)
  • AVRO Lancaster (apres moi, le deluge - the original heavy bomb hauler)
  • Hawker Typhoon (a really big complex engine, 4 cannon plus rockets = German tanks beware)
  • Focke-Wulf Fw190 (truly, one of the top single seat fighters of the war)
  • Canadair CL215/415 Waterbomber (the world’s only purpose-built firefighter)
  • Lockheed C130 Hercules (bringing food and humanitarian supplies to damn near everywhere for 60+ years)
  • Boeing 720/707 series (fast, comfy transportation for the masses - plus the test pilots rolled it!)
  • Douglas A26 Invader (fast, stylish, armed to the teeth - still flyin’ as a water bomber 75 years later)

Topeka (shitburg) Ks did have great air shows. I got to meet Bob Hoover and see him fly both the Mustang and Shrike Commander and Corkey Fornof flying his Bearcat. At the same air show I saw the Lomcevak and falling Leaf stall. I`ll never forget that day.

No particular order;
A-10
C-130 E and J especially
Pietenpol Air Camper
F-4
F-111
A-5 Vigilante
MiG-21
Junkers JU-87 (the A10s grand daddy)
Horten HO-229
B-26 (The Baltimore Whore)

This list could easily be five time longer. I haven't included any rotary wing craft...
