Marbles Motors failed gas tank liner, then screwed up the warranty repair!

I worked at Maxey's for a few months, I think we sent 8 or 9 tanks to them. The fastest turn around was probably 90 days, but the tanks always looked uniform and clean inside when they came back. I checked them with a borescope.

Also: Shipping is not the sellers responsibility -
That's enough to put me off ever dealing with you or any business who has that attitude about shipping.
Shipping is ALWAYS the sender's responsibility, except where expressly organised by the buyer.

he took it back to the guy that does the tank lining for him and the guy claimed the failure wasn’t his fault.

That old trick. Must've been somebody else. A big boy did it and ran away and the dog ate my homework.

And it's a good thing you moved, your old neighborhood has assholes in it now.

Funny how that always seems to be the case.

All right, I’m done stomping my feet and throwing tantrums. Shit happens, my tank is no longer perfect, but then neither am I. Life is too short to stay angry. As Gary reminded me yesterday, it tis the season and I’m moving on.
Today I went out in my shop and started assembling the tank. The petcock thread holes were filled with epoxy tank liner  of course.
Cleaning that stuff out was a chore, I shaved it out , whisker at a time with an Xacto knife, then ran a tap through the holes.

Petcocks installed, gas cap mounted, emblems on. I bought all new rubber mounts, for the rear and also the front slip in snubbers.

All new fuel line and filters, I rebuilt the carbs while it was down.

All buttoned up and ready for gas. I’ve got some family stuff to do tomorrow , but if I get time I’ll run and get my gas can filled and see if this old girl still runs.
She’s waiting impatiently.

All is right in the universe again. Baby I’m back! :pimp:

Hey Jeff, isn’t that about what it’s looking like around you right now?
Yup. Just a bit south of here a man was trapped in his car when a snowplow buried him in his vehicle. He called the police but they couldn't find him for 9 hours cuz it was so deep in snow. "One more hour and he was dead" said the police.

Oh yeah! I read about that guy, that was crazy, he’s lucky to be alive.

Hello, I’m new to this forum. I hope to contribute a little. Mailman sorry for your terrible experience. I thought I might chime in as I just happen to have a caswell liner kit sitting in front of me now. The instructions do warn against using certain fuel additives that contain methylene chloride. Marvel mystery oil and Lucas gas treatment being on the list. Personally I may not have purchased this product had I known as in a fan of marvel mystery oil. Best of luck

Hello, and welcome to the forum. If I were doing my own liner install, I wouldn’t have any reservations with the
Caswell liner. It enjoys a great reputation. Don’t go by my experience. I’m sure it’ll be a good product for you.

Thanks, I’m sure it will. I researched tank liners at length and found caswell to have a great reputation as well. I was just surprised that only at the bottom of there instruction sheet did they mention avoiding the methylene chloride. I use marvel mystery oil in all my engines minus the daily driver. I’m still going to use it but I wouldn’t have liked to have known before I purchased it. Again good luck with your tank.

Hmmmm! Got a few rust spots in the SE's tank but, after reading all this, I intend to leave it alone. There is, of course, only one conclusion to arrive at here - MM does questionable work. The cost, the inconvenience, the time taken, the denials and the result amount to a total and near incomprehensible failure. It's comforting to harbour sentiments of retribution but, that is further wasted effort. The members here are now informed and that word of mouth will circulate to the vendor's detriment. As Gary suggests, put this behind you. Mount up and ride off and as the frustration of unbelievably poor service wears off, you can go back to enjoying the ride. If the tank lining fails in 6 months, deal with it then as a new issue with this experience under your belt. We can't always win, though you deserve to come close because you are a reasonable gentleman. Walk away from this one - who knows? The liner may still have its integrity when you depart for that impeccable garage in the sky.
Cheers
