Hello I have acharging problem on my xs650 1983 . New Stator and wire harness buy mikesxs. Rotor and new regulator buy xs650direct in ontario after having installed everything I still have no load I have done the test to put on the ground the green wire of the regulator and the load works. I contacted xs650direct to have another regulator and it still doesn't work. Do you know if these regulators sound bad part or I have another problem? No headlight and speedo light

So to sum it up
Everything is New

New Stator and wire harness buy mikesxs. Rotor and new regulator

There was a shift in Components 1980 On the alternator circuit so Different parts Before and After
please check you got the right ones. And what harness. So they corresponds

No headlight and speedo light
You have a Power supply Problem .. Assuming battery and fuses please check what works and what is not working
Before trying to start .. And report or do the fault finding

There is a yellow wire that comes up out of the stator. It isn't in the big plug. It plugs into the yellow wire to the safety/headlight relay. As the engine starts the alternator starts to make power. This yellow wire uses some of this power to trip the safey/headlight relay. In the normally closed position it sends power to the starter relay, when the yellow wire trips the relay it stops power to the starter relay and sends it out to the head light. If this yellow wire is unhooked or the relay is poorly grounded or possibly bad it won't trip.

Yes I know for the yellow of the stator it must have at least 6v to trigger the relay. the ground at the relay is good I suspect the step relay is working I ordered a sure ebay it will arrive soon. I’ll do the test again on the yellow for the moment I’ll communicate to xs650direct.com to tell them that the 2regulator don’t work.

Please check if everything else is working blinker horn brake light
parking light and so..on

Horn, brake light, and parking brake light starter is ok

just headlight amd speedo tach light don’t work

Looking at a schematic for a 78
I would look inside the switch for the lamp nr 6 handle right
I think R/Y is in --- please check that there is voltage
And look there around apologize if it is different on Your model

Problem solved. I have reinstalled my old regulator with a new plug and I have 14v to 3000 rpm load and for my headlight I installed an headlight relay xs1980 spare part of ebay and now it works. I wrote to xs650direct to inform them that the two regulator that he sold me his defective he will check their inventory to see what is not going to follow....
