'74 DT250 Bitsa. The "Aussie Mutt."

Fork seals showed up about 7 this evening. Figured I could get one of 'em done at least. Took one apart and cleaned the bits up in my new solvent tank. Everything looked good. Used a blue roloc disk to remove the clearcoat and some minor corrosion off the lower, and polished with some white rouge. Didn't go for the "almost chrome" finish like I did on the SG... just a respectable shine.

All the internals cleaned and ready for reassembly.

Installed the new seals, a little blue loctite on the bolt holding the damper rod in the bottom. 6oz of fork oil and done. One down... one to go.

Watching this great build - a whole machine from bits!
Well, when you consider lots of builds start with a teardown, then 10yrs later you're standin' there scratchin' your head at how it all goes back together... it ain't so different.
Mostly just I don't have the parts to scratch my head at... just the parts diagrams. :umm:

:sneaky:

Shiny bits for the headlight ears were pretty crusty.

Nothing a Brillo pad and Turtle Wax couldn't handle though. Also polished the fork caps.

Didn't have the square rubbers... spring washers and such that go under the lower chrome piece, so I made some round ones from some rubber tubing and super glue.

... and put it all together. Polished up some stainless bolts for the lower pinch bolts. I've got the chrome upper bolts and acorns around here somewhere... :umm:

One step closer to being a roller.

Jus' Piddlin'

Picked up some bolts and installed the headlight bucket.
Turn signals, if I use 'em, will go on the handlebars. Still no joy on the chrome pinch bolts and acorns. :umm:
Jeeze... I need a better parts storage system.

Although I have a rather extensive collection of vintage metric fasteners, I don't seem to have these for ya :(
