What have you done to your XS today?

'Course.... this dealership is huge...
Yes it is! Took a look at the photographs. Motorsickle dealership? Hell, that's a whole dang lifestyle you got goin' on there. Harley-Davidson oil, mens apparel, womens apparel, branded sausages eaten off branded plates I have no doubt.

Busy weekend!

Made a dummy spark plug with a hose clamp, 2 aligator clips and a length of 12g wire following tips on here. I clamped the wire to the plug base and the alligator clip on the other end onto the cylinder fins and as insurance against ruining the coil I clamped the spark plug to the fins with the other alligator clip.
Raised the idles on the vm34s and did the dead cylinder carb set up with the engine idling
at 800rpm and the petcock to the dead cylinder closed. Ended up with both air mixture screws 2 turns out from seated where each cylinder seemed to run the best.
I then raised the clip on the needles from the middle notch to the second from top. Took it for a 200 kilometres ride and it goes well above 3000rpm with not the best response. Pulled the plugs when I got home and they are both tan.
Maybe I should go up from a 20 pilot to 25 and turn the air screw out a quarter of a turn??.
Here's some pictures of the plugs and the carbs are 180 mains, 2.5 slides, p-5-159 needle jet and6F9 jet needle.
If you've got color on the sides of the porcelain on that white plug then it's not too lean. The other one is too rich. It appears the white plug is colored all the way up the sides and that, actually, is a tad rich. The dark color ring on the side of the porcelain should only come up about 1/4 of the way from the bottom.

Jet sizes change in 2.5 number increments. Going from a #20 pilot to a #25 would be jumping two sizes. When your jetting is close, which yours appears to be, you don't want to be skipping sizes, one step can make a big difference. So, if you are going to increase the pilots, I would only go one size to a 22.5.

Super happy to managed to rivet the cam chain, ready to close up the top end, and ride...Ah no! still have to put back the engine on the frame, updated the electrics, rejet the carbs to accommodate the proper flow for a rebore kit, probably change the breaks, fit the seat (anybody knows the modifications needed for a new TX seat on the frame of an SE 1979?)...

A brother from Denver arrives in 10 days or so. He will want to ride it. Time to assemble. Install plugs, refit the exhaust. Only some progress. Cleaned up the chain with paint thinner and a drywall tray to keep the mess down. Worked a treat. I was happy to see all the rollers spun easily as I scrubbed with toothbrush and paint thinner.. Also, after the front brake work, I hosed down the caliper and rotor with brake cleaner to get rid of any brake fluid residue. (The details that keep you up at night).
