Interesting motorcycles, not XS650

May a gentleman be permitted a relevant digression? A few years ago, the great city of Birmingham, once known as the Second City of Empire, decided it needed an upgrade to its corporate image. They employed some expensive PR firm to come up with a new image and one of the things they produced was new Birmingham headed note paper for use in all official communications. The background to the heading was a cityscape of skyscrapers, giving a nice modern touch. The plans were given the thumbs up and loads and loads of headed paper was purchased from a commercial printing company. Before some bright spark noticed that the cityscape of tall buildings bore no resemblance to that great city.

In fact, during the process, somebody had utilised the skyline of Birmingham, Alabama. A truly stupid cock-up which attracted the glare of media attention for all the wrong reasons. The BBC even contacted the Mayor of Birmingham, Alabama to facetiously ask whether that city might be interested in buying up the headed notepaper. He was well amused by the story and I'll never forget his response - 'This World seems to have been stuck on stoopid for a long time now!'
The U.S. Navy did the same thing about 10 years ago utilizing another nations aircraft carrier in publicity photos.

The 2 bikes beyond were impeccable builds with photo albums. And they didn't win. I parked and realized immediately 81 didn't have a chance. 81 does show well , thanks, but not a show winner, but gathers a crowd. :)
As long as you had a good time and brought a smile or good memory to someone else, it's a good day.

About a month ago Desmoman mentioned he was looking for a 900 Seca and this one popped up on the Madison WI CL. Then it got convoluted.
Desmo and I both got ahold of the guy, bike was in Colorado.
Desmo said, yup I want it, Seller was headed to Road America for the MC races this weekend. His folks live near me in Beaver Dam WI. So met him at their place.
Didn't ride it but with 60K on the speedo it looks good, idled, ran well. Very cold blooded. money and title changed hands, into the trailer. Had good maint records, much done recently.
Later this year the seca heads to Desmo's in Georgia.
He also had a very nice RZ350  But that's another story.
Seca 900's were only made in 1983, iirc.
I have one in storage. It's a long story how it came to me. I'm moving to Arkansas soon and once settled, it'll be getting redone.

It appears to be in good shape except the tank is rusty inside.

I chatted with another fellow. We shared friends 50 years ago and ran the same dirt riding areas of the time. Small world.
These are the things that warm your heart. As to not winning anything, I raced SCCA Formula Vee for many years. I got lucky and won a few races. The best time I ever had was at Road America at the 25th FV birthday party in 1988. I started 49th out of 72 cars and finished 42nd. It ain't always about the trophy, sometimes the fellowship is it's own reward.

Seeing that picture makes me a little sad. So many important people totally glossed over what yesterday was. God bless the Allied soldiers that landed in Normandy 78 years and 1 day ago.
Spent a large part of yesterday rereading the history of the invasion... just like I do every year.

Yeah... agree that it should be more front and center.
And not just us... England, Canada, France... the Poles... we all had a hand and paid dearly for that day.
