JesseeS Build Thread

I used cognito moto wheels front and rear on my build.
Expensive? Yes, but I couldn't be happier. They were packed properly, fit like they were supposed to and great customer service!
I had a couple questions about mounting the brake disc. When I called, the guy I talked to was very knowledgeable.
I had some concerns and when he reassured me about the warranty, I was skeptical and said, "Are you sure that the warranty would be honored that way"?
He replied, "I'm certain. I'm the owner of the company and you have my word"!
I also used their steering stem to fit a GSXR1000 front end on my 650. It went together with no issues.
That’s excellent to here. If the only negative of a company is price, that’s not really a negative at all. Gotta pay for Machines and r&d. and for the owner to get on the phone himself is something not seen a lot nowadays. I called once about a question with my order and the person who answered was extremely helpful so I look forward to buying more of their stuff. I have their complete triples on order

Just a good sanding to rough up and clean the areas that are hard to reach and a good primer coat is how I’ve done many frames. I’m always happy with the results. D35F376C-3CEE-4C45-A401-AC522421DAA9.jpegF81B178E-4EBA-45B1-97DC-1CE15F959789.jpegB9E32738-C845-4897-A238-FC0E3326F832.jpeg

Alright all. Took my carbs back apart (BS34’s) because I didn’t remember what I was running inside and wanted to write down for future reference. My motor mods aren’t extensive but they are 750 kit, refurbed head, swapped my 2 into 1 exhaust with a 2 into 2 with XS Performance reverse cones which are open, and 4” uni pod filters. My current carb settings are
5IX11 needle
3rd clip from top (2 clips are above my setting)
336-Y-0 needle jet
135 main
42.5 pilot
135 air jet
I have read ALOT of the jetting guides to the point of being nauseated, and I’m sure the gurus here are tired of constantly having to repeat themselves. So I’m hoping my current settings are close, if anything maybe a go up a size on the pilot. I didn’t go up 2 on the mains due to the Canadian needle and needle jet is supposed to be richer. I know I won’t be able to really tell until the bikes done and I can run through the rev range. I Just want to make sure I’m somewhat in the ballpark. Which I think I am. I did bench run the motor and it fired up, idled and revved (sometimes it died doing this but it was before I had any filters on). If you have any input feel free to correct me before I get these mounted back up!

Aaaaand now we wait a week. Plans are for Saturday June 18th to install the motor and if my triple trees are in by then, the front forks as well

That sir is purty! It reminds me of the tank on my first bike.
It was a 1980 XS850 Special and the black had tiny flecks of color similar to that frame.
Gorgeous!

Thank you! I wasn’t sure how I was going to like the specks, but it’s one of those you really need to be up close to spot it, and I really like that

I had a Suzuki V-Strom that just looked like gloss black until you got it out in bright sunlight, then you could see just the most subtle blue flake in it, like your frame. I like that! Now onward and upward! 👍

You may be a little lean on the pilots and mains.

I have BS34’s on two different bikes; one with Gunn Design exhaust & 4” K&N’s - otherwise stock and one re-phased (stock bore and cam) running VAPE ignition with 4” stacks and really short exhaust. The former runs pretty well throughout the range with a Dyno Tune (Heiden) jet needle (clip 3rd from top), stock Y-0 needle jet, genuine Mikuni 45 pilots and 145 mains. The latter currently has the same set-up regarding NJ, JN and mains, except running 47.5 pilots. That latter is still being sorted and currently awaiting 336-Y-0 jets to try with 51X11 needles. Still, it’s very drivable, idles fine and takes throttle well. I’m at 700ft elevation and running 90 octane ethanol free fuel.

Admittedly, I don’t yet know the effect of the “Canadian” set-up you’re planning to run. I’ll know as soon the NJ’s get here from New Smyrna Beach.

Thanks for the heads up! Your elevation is within striking distance of mine so I’ll add some of those extra sizes to the list!

Nice!!!

Gotta paint a frame this weekend, I may borrow that ratchet strap idea.
It’s functional for sure. The only spots I had to keep an eye on were the very bottom of the frame hoop and the rear frame section. Being at that angle made it hard to see if I missed a spot. Had to get out the spot light

Hey Jesse, looking at the first pics in your thread, you have the XS engine mounted on a conventional automotive engine stand. Did you fab the motor mount plate(s) or buy them? If you bought them, where from?

Brgds,

Retraction: !

I hope you haven't ordered more jets on my previous advice; that non-US needle jet/needle combo is significantly richer than stock US NJ and the Dyno Tune. I now have the 336-Y-0/51X11 installed and I'm back down to 137.5 main with 45 pilot and still sorting. You may be good right as you stand. I should have riding weather for the next couple of days and, hopefully, finalize the tune.

Sorry for leading you off!
