Summer solstice yesterday, and I rode to a Bath Riders Of Old Japanese Motorbikes pub meet at Tucker's Grave, an old cider house in Somerset that's been developing it's camping business using its adjoining field. The inside of the place hasn't changed for decades, and is exactly the same as when I first visited it in 1976. They have built stuff outside though to expand without ruining the character of the place.

I arrived a bit late and lots of people had already left, so here's a pic I stole from FB to give an idea of the earlier turnout and one of mine to show what was left when I got there. The owner of the Z13 in the foreground runs Ultimate Bike Paint and did the paint job on my bike.

Great company - I ended up chatting with the guy who raced the bikes prepared by the bloke who just did the belt service on my Multistrada! Small world ....

I’m at the VJMC National Rally. I rode my XS650SK 380 miles to get here. It was a hot ride until I got rain soaked. I welcomed that at first, then I got cold. No pictures on the ride. It was too hot to be stopped.

Tomorrow is my birthday, and I’ve started a new thing where every year on or near my birthday, I rent myself a bike. This year I picked a Ducati. I’ve never ridden one and have always been interested, especially in the Multistrada. So, I got the 950S and took it out. WOW. What a machine. They’re right when they say Ducati has its own “character”. There’s just something about it that’s, different. It had enough grunt down low, but after 6k it’s a rocket. Not my style of riding (anymore) but a blast! The Multistrada has been on my list for a while as a potential purchase and now that I’ve ridden it, would I own one? I’m not sure I would. It handled great, shifted like butter and the motor is a gem, but, there was no spark for me. I really enjoyed my time with it and I’d ride one again, but I don’t think I’d open my check book for one. Oh well, I did spy a couple Triumphs for next year ;)

Nice one JesseeS, and Happy Birthday

Yeah! Happy birthday Jessee ! 😃 Cool Ducati.

I used to have some traditions around my birthday as well. I started that tradition after a very unfortunate doctor visit on my 48th birthday that resulted in a cancer diagnosis. From then on I decided I was going to take my birthday off every year and do something nice for myself. My taking a day off, soon turned into three days off, and that turned into a week off, then two weeks off, then whole vacations. Towards the end of my working years , I was only working about ten days during November ( my birthday month ) 😄. On my 60th birthday I bought my ‘77 XS650 and promptly retired! Haha!
Nowadays , my birthday rolls around and I get a pizza. Woo! 😁
