One Mans Junk.... '72 CS5E (RD200) Build.

Have to wonder if you could really get $6,500 of that bike if I would have been better off buying a couple when new and then store them in a nice dry place if I would have done better than playing the stock market? $1,000 for a head for a 2-stroke? I recall the guy I bought my RD400 off used told me about someone who had a "Gold Head" to fit it. Forget the asking price back then but know it was no where near $1,000!

Can’t tell from the pic, but if that’s a 250 or 350… where I live 6500 would be a average price, maybe even a great deal depending on the build.

They collect big bucks in California.

It’s a 350. I cleaned up the fuzzy pic.

So I think I got lucky with the motor. Book says rocking at the con rod little end should be 2mm or less. Got a half on one and a mm on the other. Center crank seal is of the labyrinth variety, so should be just fine. Just need to replace the end seals.
Looks like it was bored a half a mm over and never run.... good thing too.

Cylinders still have the crosshatch from honing.... light surface rust that will clean up easy....

So here's why I said luckily never run. Any 2 stroke aficionados out there?

I never understand why 4 strokes don’t use pins.

I’ve had a bike that started with staggered rings, align themselves and then smoke.

Pins just seem like a smart thing to do.

I will bite, I dont see any champher or relief on the ports.

WideAwake the pins are to stop the rings turning and catching in the ports you can imagine the scenario.

Yes, that I know as I’ve owned my fair share 2 strokes.

But, on a 4 stroke, your staggered rings can move, seems pins would be a very easy fix for that.

Rings line up every once in a while, happens all of the time.
Staggering keeps the initial ring/bore break-in from wearing unevenly.
After 10-15 minutes it does not matter.
Easy "fix" for what?
