What have you done to your XS today?

Cheers JP.
Revival also state (on a motorbike) 12awg is more than enough for battery connection; not 6awg states in manual.
The 12ga reference may be for connections to the solenoid actuating circuit (2 circuits bottom right M-Unit that activate solenoid). The circuit through solenoid from battery to starter needs 6ga (8ga-4ga depending on length). Most MC starters are in the 100amp neighborhood

OK JP, that’s what I thought.
I put 6ga in the circuit to be safe.

I bought revivals starter solenoid and main fuse. Here is a photo of the wiring directions for it. Note that it says 6g off the starter and battery to the solenoid, then 12g off the solenoid to the m unit itself. I know your application is different but thought this may help

Cheers JesseeS. I have now done a similar set up.

The XS starter specs current draw at 12V 37A no load to 8.3V 100A @ full load 3000rpm (that's from the book). The short cable run makes a difference in you favor. Still 8ga would be pushing accepted boundaries, but doable on a "well tuned motor". 6ga more forgiving of extra cranking. Attached chart mostly useless (lengths), but gives an idea
Just throwing this out there....
I'm using 8awg on my SG with no problems (batt to solenoid... solenoid to starter and the ground).
Once during some "gonzo" box testing I managed to get the starter too hot to touch. The 8ga wires never got warm.

Getting Closer
This spring MaxPete and Total Fool gave me a big boost getting the ignition on this sorted and now after working on a bunch of other house projects, I finally got it looking and sounding like a bike. First gas in the newly painted tank today and no seeping anywhere.
Still have to install front brakes and add some emblems, but have inspiration now.

Pulled a set of BS34's off a parts bike and tore them down...looks like the last fuel put through them was hi-test molasses, duly congealed to the state of semi-hardened gasket shellac. Amazingly, I succeeded in removing everything except the pilot jets without stripping or otherwise buggering a single screw or jet. Ordered kits from Cruzinimage to rebuild them.

Tore down a set of BS38's off my 650D that was filling its crankcase with gas...needle valves looked fine but one float of each pair was filled with fuel. No bueno! Float set on order from Cruzinimage.

Looks great in blue!

Cheers TW and JesseeS. Great help as always.
Gone with @jpdevol advice and run the cables outside the frame tubes; ah..hem....... for reasons of safety. Nothing to see here.....
Nothing at all.
That's how I'd have played it. After all, you ain't buildin' a show bike.... it's a rider.
