I can't stop myself, single cam CB750

Nice find. They’ve never popped up on the center stand like the Xs’.Even in the early days, all 140#’s of me could do it but grunted. Now in to my 60’s and 75# more on the meter I struggled with my 76f until I got a tip to “Just slide a 3/4to 1” cheater board under it”.It sure helps.Just saying.Enjoy the ride.👍
I'm a wimp, used a 2x4...............
Will take a list along for the barber swap meet............
May need to take SoDak off the lift for a bit. (Danger Will Smith, Danger, Danger!)

There must be something wrong with me, all I can think of is tearing the motor apart, polishing the shiny bits, cleaning the cases, New pistons, cam chain, primary chain, gaskets, seals, then taking my time putting it back together. Then tearing it apart and doing it all over again, at least a dozen times.. I do hope that seat will get lost!

Motors are known to run 50k-100k with no problem.

New side badges are about 30 bucks.

Biggest problem with sitting bikes internally seems to be the primary tensioner which turn hard and crumble. Gotta split the cases to replace. Bummer.

If you gotta replace, only use genuine. CMS sells a genuine chain and tensioner kit at a great price.

I dig it as is. Good runner you don’t gotta worry about.

It set me back about $1200 to do a good solid, basic rebuild. Didn’t need any bearings, head work, valves, Rebore or pistons. - just tensioners, chains, guides, used rocker, gaskets, a lot of o rings, paint, soda for the blaster, clutch plates, piston rings, paint, polish and hardware.

If you really had to get into it, that could be a big ticket.

Don't want to rain on anybody's parade, but when I worked the sales floor part time at a Honda shop back around 1968 to 70, I hated giving demo rides on that beast. Getting it up on the center stand, 125 lbs soakin' wet? Not a problem. Too much weight, particularly unsprung weight, with too much weight up high? Problem. Best thing I could say about the handling is that it cornered better than a Hardly Ableson 74. The only thing I really liked about the bike was that it sold like hotcakes.

Nothing you have said is in anyway inaccurate!

I’m 6’2 #220 - it’s not too difficult for me to get on the center stand but I could certainly see how it could be for many people. It’s bulky and heavy.

I’m 6’2 and just barely comfortably get my feet on the ground at a stop light. It sits HIGH.

Handles like a recliner, and the brakes leave a lot to be desired.

But in a straight line or as a long distance rider it’s a blast and comfortable. Almost zero vibrations which is nice.

Some inspiration? If ya hurry and get it sorted, we can get maybe one more ride this season:bike:

Hah, you and me both. Then I found the best cure was to replace the old saggy springs front and rear, which restored the pop-up nicely.
Of course, I screwed that in turn by later fitting lowered suspension front and rear and had to shorten the centre stand.

I'm not a fan of anything with more than 2 cylinders, but I had an 82' Cb900 with all the bells and whistles... Great bike.. I thought it was than the 82' Rt100 that I replaced it with. Last swap meet of the year was just done. My buddy rode this 750 to the gig. One of the other vendors asked how much... " $800,oo ".. told my buddy way too cheap he should start at $2000.oo.... he let the vendor have it for...$800.oo.... say'n he had almost nothing in it. By the end of the day it had been sold 5 times... final price... $2000.oo... Aaaaaaaaaaargh :laugh2:

Dammit @Mailman it's your fault.
Gentle friends............
Don't cruze FB looking for CB750 partz,
cuz, well,
KIMG2228.JPG
All the parts seem to be there.
Guy got it as a trade, for detailing a pick up truck,
He got the carbs out to clean 'em and thought geez they sure look complicated. All work ceased. Needed it out out of the garage for winter. He was just plain tired of FB BS, A low ball cash offer from his already too low price and a two hour drive did the deed.
Prius get 42MPG with the trailer empty at 70MPH 38 with the bike in the trailer at 64MPH

Shows 14,000 shift free miles. clean title. newish tires.
Far from perfect but not too bad.
Dog gone it. too good to rob parts from..............Motor kicks through with compression using the emergency starter. Seems to have an aftermarket electronic ignition. :umm:

………..But perfect from afar 😄. Actually it looks like a pretty cool retro touring bike!

You know…I didn’t see the automatic at first. It absolutely amazes me , just how many of these I see come up for sale. They must’ve made more of them than I imagined, or they have just been real survivors. I know they received a lot of positive reviews from the cycle mags back when they came out. The tranny is super complex with a gazillion tiny parts and it’s all mechanical, not hydraulic like a car. They seem to hold up well. All in all, an interesting bike, I’ve never seen one set up for touring.

I had to split the case because due to crankcase pressure they used a double seal on the countershaft where it exited the case. The outer was NLA but I was able to source some seals that matched except for being 2mm thinner. The inner seal you can buy at any parts supplier but you had to split the cases to replace it.

They made it that easy, huh? Haha!

hondomatic after a bit of cleanup.

Carbs seem real decent, just some mineral spirits and tooth brush action so far. Should be a straight forward, open the float bowls, clean jets, spray out passages, fight the accelerator pump circuit, deal.

You can see how these might intimidate a guy. Appears that not a single screw was touched, WHEW!

I didn’t really get it at first, but as soon as I got mine set up properly, they were definitely a super bike of the time and they look good doin it.

In 1969, I was a twelve year old kid, living in Phoenix. My next door neighbor was a fighter pilot ( Phantoms ) at Luke Air Force Base. One day, one of his Air Force buddies came riding up on a brand new Honda CB750, the first model. I remember it like it was yesterday, the sound of that four cylinder engine, those four exhaust pipes, that gleaming gold metallic paint. The bike instantly drew a crowd of neighbors who came over to see that bike.
It looked like sex on wheels! It sure made a lasting impression on this kid!
