Mailman’s Suzuki C50 Boulevard

I’ve decided to add a removable backrest to my bike. This one is made by a company called Grasshopper, they make them for several cruiser bikes. They are non adjustable, but the slick part is they are quick release, on and off in just seconds. Around town…..leave it off…..wanna go for a long ride…..it slides right in. It comes with a bracket that bolts right on top of your seat mount, and when the rear seat is in place , the mount is nearly invisible.

I haven’t had it out for a ride yet, but when I do, I’ll post a little update. 😉
Apples and oranges, but my '05 H-D Road King has a Mustang seat with a quick detach backrest and as someone with a bad back, I love it. If you ever change from the stock seat, I recommend Mustang or Ultimate.

Truly, you are on the road to motorcycle Nirvana, grasshopper.

I'm in the feet forward and backrest camp for all day riding. Alas my stable currently lacks a running bike in that category. Mainly cuz that position also tends to a bike with a wet weight of way over 800 lbs. Fine for the highway, but no fun at low speed.

Yeah I wouldn’t hesitate to own e close to good r

That's a fact! You wanna' have real fun? Ride a touring bike in a parade!

That was a big part of the reason I chose this bike. It tips the scales at 644 lbs, and it still has the stance and comfort of a large cruiser, the trade off was top end power. It Carrie’s its weight low and handles brilliantly at low speeds and is smooth and solid at higher speeds, but it’s breathing hard anywhere over 65 mph. That was the bargain I struck, I knew it going in. So far, no regrets.

Another observation, I had a Suzuki V-Twin 650 V-Strom, it too was water cooled, but it was a completely jacketed engine with no fins. You felt almost no heat coming off of that engine when you were riding.
But this bike, even though it’s water cooled, it has functional fins and this motor throws off a lot of heat when riding. I notice it even when I’m moving at a good clip. I wonder how much of the motor has water jackets? Maybe just around the heads?

Oh my God! That’s a slippery slope! It’s the power commander, then exhaust, then new air intake and on and on! before you know it, you come to the realization it would’ve been cheaper just to buy the 100 hp Indian scout!
I went down that rabbit hole on my Bonneville America, trust me, those pesky rabbits dig mighty deep holes! 😄

Yes I would not modify at all. Like Gary said its a slippery slope to gain maybe a few HP. I am also amazed that that bike weighs 644 when my FJR1300 is maybe 100lbs more with 140HP or so. The FJR is early breathing at 120

Well the verdict on the backrest is in, I love it ❤️, it really helps. I took the bike on an 80 mile ride this morning, almost all highways and it was just very relaxed feeling. I’m almost at that point now , where I could take a little nap while riding! 😄

It might spoil you!

Today I took advantage of our beautiful weather and took a half day ride, 180 miles all in. I rode to Gila Bend , if Arizona had an armpit, Gila Bend is it. 😄 This ride was most definitely not about the destination, but rather the old two lane highway to get there. It used to be the main highway but it was bypassed years ago by a great big super slab, so now almost nobody travels on the old road……except me. 😉 The ride was great, but more to the point.

What the hell is it with me and luggage on this bike?! 🤬

Not that long ago, I returned home from a similar ride , only to realize that my brand new Nelson Riggs tail bag had somehow come undone and flew the coup.
Today I returned home, only to realize that somehow two of the bolts holding my luggage rack went AWOL, allowing my rack and top case to flop down and hit my tail light , cracking it.

That taillight assembly is a three piece affair, a chrome ring, gasket and the tail lamp assembly that is all one glued together housing. Anyone care to guess what Suzuki gets for one of them jewels?? I’m still trying to pick my jaw up off the floor.

Btw, the mounting bolts had crown nuts on them that I had installed with threadlocker and no lock washers because I didn’t want to mar the chrome. I don’t think the nuts fell off, I’m more inclined to believe that the small mild steel , bolts broke. I’m thinking about enlarging the holes a bit and getting some hardened bolts to replace them.
