I am trading my labor for this bike. My friend is having me restore another 73 Z1900 and i'm taking this in trade. 2005 BMW k1200S, 167hp monster. He is 76 and never rides it. 2,500 miles on the bike. We brought it to the dealer to do some of the recalls on it and new tires. I picked it up 3 months ago at the dealer but couldn't ride it because the battery died? Well I rode it the other day as we started to negotiate the trade. Not sure what the dealer did but the servo brakes run continuously which kills the battery. Anyway if you know anything about these bikes they had a few issues one of which is those dam servo brakes. I will be removing the ABS/servo unit and converting them to std brakes which was an option for this bike in 2005. Wish me luck

Ahhhhh yes, never forget the German engineering motto, "Why make it simple when it can be difficult"

BMW: It izzt not that we have made an error, izt that you are not worthy enough to understand our genius.
Had a K1200LT where the ABS went out while I was riding. holly crasp nearly ZERO brake available! After brake line replacement and a complex bleeding operation the ABS then worked great til I sold that heavy ole road barge.
In 2007? the design was changed so the default is; brakes that work when (not if) the ABS dies.
Been riding the (90K miles) R1200Gs all season with no ABS, brakes are very good, have the part to do a homebuilt ABS repair but haven't been willing to dig in yet. That module lives DEEP inside the chassis.

Trust me, it ain't just BMW.

Ever heard of a software program called SAP? One program with various modules that covers EVERYTHING a company could possibly do as part of running a business. The cannery fell for that bullshit and started with the financial and inventory modules. Big chunks of the staff gone for days/weeks working with the consultants to tailor it to the operation and then more days/weeks learning how to use it.

When they finally got around to standing up the maintenance module (against our wishes and over a year after the initial purchase) the Maintenance Manager and I spent a full week working with the consultants, plus several months doing intial data entry to cover all our equipment.

Final result: In order to document a simple maintenance action (checked the oil on the air compressor, say) I'd spend 30 minutes going through a dozen different screens. One to draw the supplies, one to update the schedule for next time, one to pull up to proper compressor, one to actually say I checked the oil, etc. ad nauseum

I quit not too long after that and the parent company closed the cannery a few months after that. Cooincidence?

Lol! From VAPE instructions (originally German Powerdynamo)

"Give the newly installed system a chance to work, before you start to check and test values, or what is worse apply changes to it.Our parts have been checked before delivery to you. You will not be able to check much anyway. At any rate do refrain from measuring the electronic components (such as ignition coil, regulator and advance unit). You risk severe damage to the inner electronics there. You will not get any tangible results from the operation anyway. "
