What the Heck Is It ?

Guess we know what kind of mechanics you'se guys are!

Sadly this came with the Hondo XL500S, already on to the next guy. I really thought it was a chimera in the box but now suspect it had to do with that motor's cam riding directly in the head.
A discussion of their use with many why and why nots. https://forum.studebakerdriversclub...-bearings-clearances-and-feathered-shims-long

Yea, it was a semi-acceptable practice on some pre-war motor designs with plain bearings. Used in the right way; take-up clearances at a non-rotating locale: maybe. Used on rod caps; not so much.

The XL head: hmm, I'll ponder that on the drive home from Boone. Don't think shims will work there:eek:

Came in the boxes with my recent XS1B project.

Only things missing were a couple bolts and a few feet of light weight chain. that's a standard sheet of paper it's sitting on for scale.
Cleaned up and tested, it works!
Who knows???

Bicycle siren? Or fill it with tea leaves and put it in a pot of boiling water. Tea for the day!

In the off season, one of my primary activities is hiking. I was with my friend Lisa at the Camillus Unique Area today for a 4.5 mile hike. This area was once a farming area for residents of a residential treatment facility for handicapped adults in the 40's, 50's and 60's. They worked the farm as a part of "treatment", an approach to mental health which has since been outlawed.

We came upon a farm implement which we could not identify , although Lisa grew up on a farm.

It is about 14 feet long and has a traditional hitch and frame. The rear axle is quite substantial and an ability to be shifted laterally.

On the back plate of the rear axle is the word, "Climax", see photo.

So, here is the challenge: What the heck is it ?
