Stuff my dog says; on second thought I'll just build a race car

And people who don't do this type of work wonder why it cost hundreds of thousands to have one built/restored.
So that's not done yet, needs more than 2 screws holding it in and the gone around and try to shine the weld marks back out of it. To get to that picture though was 12 hours of work just on this mesh vent piece. I'm not going to say it HAS to take that long there are thousands of people who probably could've done it some form of quicker, but at the end of the day I'm guessing that no matter where it's done this would come out to at least a thousands dollars US to have it made from scratch like this.

Absofreakinlutely. Had to modify and paint a Lotus Seven hood because the owner had changed the intake/carb setup. Had to make a blister, weld it in, planish the area, fill, prime and paint. Charged him less than a grand and he still cried like a baby. That was one customer I was glad never called me back. Beautiful work BTW.

I did a small panel on a Barracuda years ago now, we changed from the factory front lit gauges to back lit ones so I made a panel to replace the light panel. Something that you almost had to lay in the floor board to see but it was 3 planes with curves on either end so it took 4.5 gours to do. The owner of it never once complained about a bill but that was certainly one of those "People really have no idea what it takes" moments.

Had a misadventurous yesterday. My plan was to remake the windscreen frame in stainless yesterday then start in the grill today. I ended up wasting 3.5 hours yesterday making some shiny garbage though so even though I left the shop after 8 I had a good bit left to do on the windscreen frame this morning.

Welding the long bottom channel caused it to pull the curve a ton, then I picked the worst way in the world to try and open it back up. I tossed it and started again eventually stopping with the channel formed but no polishing or mounting made.

I can see where that would be a very fussy project to get it to come out right. Pretty much impossible to hide boo-boos on that.
Yep. I built a log home. You can't fix your boo boo's with caulk, mud and paint. You have to get real creative or live with the mistakes.

I'd have been fine if I had just heated it back up and flexed it back into shape, which is what I did the second go around. Nothing was going to keep that curve from tightening I just made the while thing lumpy trying to fix it the wrong way. Not perfect I'm cool with, that's the whole theme of this thing, lumpy was a terrible look though against a round body edge.

More stuff today,, it's something I specifically avoided getting in pictures but there was an awkward transition step of around an eighth to three thirty-seconds of an inch down from the nose to the hood. I cut the top of the nose and brought the curve down to smooth that. It makes a much nicer looking front and makes my grill emblem idea less ugly.
