Confused about timing marks?

Now I've stepped in it.... I was trying to answer what I though was a question of backwards engines.... only to go wrong myself...
Yes, almost all bike engines rotate CCW. VW and Corvair are examples of Clockwise engines...

Okay, now I am totally confused. Suffice it to say my XS1100 engine rotates in the opposite direction as the XS650.

Of course you're correct re the XS11, it's a weird (but totally awesome) motor. I had to look at the book and the timing rotor is on LH and 'F' is clockwise from 'T" - but the marks are on the rotor (rather than stationary) so the sumbitch does indeed rotate backward. I had an XS1100G (silver), but as they're reliable as rocks, never opened that up.

So, whomever is keeping score: that's two wrong statements by me this month and they were both with Marty. I'll try to do better:laugh2:
