“Garage built, shed built”... stable built!

Little milestone reached last night, I stopped by Rick’s of Smedspeed on my way home after working on a cliff top in Torquay and he heated up my lower steering bearing on his bearing heater and it dropped right on to the stem. This meant I could finally fit my yokes, I was absolutely flying...

Opinion needed - Latest Rage Elephant Foot Adjusters

I’m about to order some of the Porsche ones, just waiting to hear back from the missus friend who works for Porsche to see if I can get a sweeter deal before I shell out the £25 each they go for on eBay. Daniel.

    Broken Elephant Foot Valve Adjuster

Hello @TwoManyXS1Bs I appreciate you this thread is from a few years back but I only stumbled across it last night and I have to say I’m really interested in the modification you suggest, I plan on using the Porsche valve adjustment screws so whilst the rocker arms are being modified to work...

Skimming Cylinder Head surface to Remove/reduce pitting

Hi Barrie, I never post on the UK Facebook group. I had mine done as I was having the valve seats cut, valve guides installed & reamed so just wanted to get things as flat and smooth as possible, like you’re asking, I don’t imagine they would of taken off very much at all, but like you say...

Skimming Cylinder Head surface to Remove/reduce pitting

Hi @BarrieC I had mine skimmed/resurfaced. Unfortunately I can’t tell you how much they removed but I can give you a phone number to call where I’m sure they can tell you? Daniel.

“Garage built, shed built”... stable built!

It's worth mentioning that before I spent close to 14 hours boiling water & scrubbing, I chased every threaded hole with these homemade chasers. The next step was the rather nerve-racking process of installing the Titanium studs that I'd had made some moons ago. Daniel.

“Garage built, shed built”... stable built!

Good evening/day gentelman, I appreciate it's been a while since my last post, but I have been busy. As previously mentioned, I wanted to feel secure I'd spent enough time and effort ensuring the upper crankcase was surgically clean ready for the rebuild. I arduously endured multiple cycles (7...

    Performance Gearbox

Thanks @650Skull, that’s exactly what I was looking for! Great info! Daniel.

    Performance Gearbox

Hi @Signal I originally sourced the XS1 gearbox as I read that 1st & 2nd gear were a little closer together than on later transmissions and I thought that would be cool to incorporate. It’s also worth noting that according to the information on Smedspeed’s site Yamaha changed the profile of...

    Performance Gearbox

I’m rapidly approaching the process of rebuilding and my engine I’m wanting to show a little/lot of love to the gearbox. I’ve done a lot of research & sourced 3rd & 5th from an XS750 for their stronger dogs and I’d also like to do the work @Ratranger did, namely undercutting of 1st gear dogs...

    Engine Build Thread Recommendation

I’d like to start to rebuilding the bottom end on my engine and I’m after a thread with thorough building process that I can use alongside the various manuals/books that I own. I figure the more resources I have at my disposal the better prepared I will be. Many thanks. Daniel.

    JesseeS Build Thread

I’ve only just caught up with your thread @JesseeS and I have to say I absolutely love it, the tank and cowl look so good together and I really appreciate the ‘muscle’ that the upside down forks provide to the front end! Daniel.

“Garage built, shed built”... stable built!

Hi @jpdevol I have that excellent book and was referencing it earlier this evening. I also watched a video on Gary Hoos's Facebook where he had the upper half of a crank case in his parts washer and I assume the fluid line into the oil inlet and you can see the fluid flowing unhindered. I may...
