The piston kit and a set of clutch plates arrived today after reordering. Pistons look like OEM only bigger.

    Rephaseing question

They can be rotated either way but the cam must match. Seems like the standard is to advance the right 3 teeth. Both of my engines are that way.

XS650 Ignition timing revisited - Are we too advanced?

I like to check for top oil just using the starter. Shut the kill switch off, pull the plugs and one valve cover. Crank the engine for a few seconds with the electric starter. Oil should be seen pouring on the cam lobes.

    Point Housing Gasket and O-Ring

Thanks, that's what I have always done but found myself questioning if it is correct.

    Point Housing Gasket and O-Ring

The gasket and seal kit I have includes a gasket and an o-ring that goes between the point and advance housing and the cylinder head. Is this similar to the tappet adjuster covers in that you use one or the other but not both?

Good tip, I found his email address on the PayPal site. Not I wait and see if I get a response.

I have sent messages from the web page and responded to the confirmation email but no response. What email address did you use?

    Cruzinimage.

I logged into my Cruzinimage account and the order is still there. Nothing says anything about being canceled and there doesn't appear to be any way of updating it, etc. I was going to reorder but am concerned that i might end up getting 2 sets, 1 set from each order. Is that what you saw in...

    Cruzinimage.

I just checked my PayPal account and discovered I received a full refund for the Pistons. I checked and according to the website the Pistons are still in stock. Not sure what to think about it all. I wonder if I should try reordering them.

I ordered the 706 big bore pistons I think on Dec 4 and received a confirmation email but after that nothing. Responded to the email and again nothing. Going to try one more time.

    Starter Gear Fix!

I think part of the problem here is that the clip gets very hot if you crank the engine for a long time. I chucked one up in my lathe and spun it while holding the clip stationery and it got hot fast. Suspect the heat is causing some of the loss of tension.

    Boyer Bransden ignition

There is another good thing about two independent ignition systems. If one fails you can ride home with just one cylinder. Not fast but it can be done. Did that a few years ago...

    Boyer Bransden ignition

I'm putting another engine together, here is where I cut off the end of the cam to fit a pickup on the right side.

    Boyer Bransden ignition

I already had a Boyer when I rephased back in 2007 and ended up just using 2 of them. One pickup on the left and the second on the right end of the cam. Don't see any other way one would work properly.

    Crank End Play

I just checked a used bearing with a similar amount of end play and I can't feel any radial play at all. Best I can tell with my caliper is there is about 0.02 mm radial play or about 0.0008". Still would really like to see a spec on this, the used bearing I measured feels fine and the internal...
