    Wannabriden's D Port Re-Port

@gggGary Hi Gary, To my knowledge Comstock is having, or had (according yo some posts a while back) , a hefty backlog of work, so I wouldn't know. Originally the xr750 style commando ports were the idea of Jim Schmidt, so I assume he does /conducts the downdraft Harley XR Style ports. As...

    Wannabriden's D Port Re-Port

@BluzPlayer Quote "However, recent discussions in the thread regarding information from Access Norton have veered me off course. Only the initial attempt at meshing some of those ideas with my present studies..... But I must say the data looks great." (My quoting function doesn't seem to...

Gary,Jim, Mailman, and other members please accept my apologies

Guys, as i usually do not get too much, or don't feel a high affinity to forum small talk, but as being said one bench measures this one bench measures that! Repeatability and measuring tolerance are the key words here, at least, in my book. Furthermore it also always depends what orifice...

    Wannabriden's D Port Re-Port

@Jack If you want to indulge yourself more into the history of the D-port, actually it was afaik a makeshift crutch in order to get the flow around the bend of the supercharger inlet of the P51 as it was pretty space restricted. In case interested go on the Nasa homepage and look for the NACA...

    Wannabriden's D Port Re-Port

@Jack If you talk about Jim's thread, yours truly was also posting there as i ported some years ago about a very successful DBD 34 head I worked on with a, then unknown to me, very similar port shape and excellent flow numbers despite high gas velocity and excellent volumetric efficiency and...

Top cut and throat cut of valve seats (question for the porting and tuning gurus)

@arcticXS Yes yes imho you can easily take out 1mm in throat diameter, in particular if it is a bronze seat as they have to my knowledge similar (or more similar expansion then steel material) heat expansion as the head material. Opening the throat also might get you more possibilities to work...

Top cut and throat cut of valve seats (question for the porting and tuning gurus)

@arcticXS Will try to answer ya tomorrow. Sorry but tonight I'm quite tired. To not leave ya in suspense though I do not think that the seating might come loose, but please lemme know the ring thickness and if somehow approximately measurable also the depth. Have a wonderful evening christian

    Project 100hp rephased 880

Hi Jack, No worries at all. As mentioned D-porting was already on my list for a long time as I'm a big fan of the work of Jerry branch, Cr Axtell, Kenny Augustine and all the other west coast boys (may they rest in peace and thanks a lot to their pioneering works) No i did not notice but I was...

    Project 100hp rephased 880

@Jack Hi there old boy, i agree and looking forward to when (unfortunately also somewhat of a big but) but and that's a big buuuut, that of course one can lower the SSR velocity and enhance the flow and score on higher volumetric (with some tricks because the flow ain't just everything it's...

    Motorcycle Racing Then & Now

Might most likely be, but even living in Italy, my heart is still on the west coast and fellows like dick Mann, kenny R, David Aldana, don Emde and the crazy Canadian Yvon Duhamel and of course the rest of the loony pack, put the Italians nicely into where they belong. Long live the multi...

    Project 100hp rephased 880

@all For street bikes my philosophy is by now: For street bikes D-port even perhaps with raised port floor For race bikes heavy d-port with raised port floor. For bad ass no expenses spared race bikes downdraft (quite some surgery involved) partially D-shaped intake port. That is of course for...

    Project 100hp rephased 880

Hi Jack, I just wanted to mention that i enjoy reading from you as i liked reading your posts so far. I'm sorry to say I'm not quite sure if mig welding was the right approach to the cast chambers skull, as with the rapid heat input there are good chances that brittle ledeburit/permit (i think...
