Maybe? To be honest I don't recall for certain, it was a number of years ago. I feel like I would have put a spacer in there though. The plastic doesn't look deformed in the photos so I'm going to say I did :D
I have 14.25" eye to eye shocks on my scrambler build and ran into excessive chain rubbing on the swingarm as well. I resolved the issue by adding a dirt bike chain slider to the swingarm. I drilled and tapped two holes in the swingarm to attach the slider.

I picked up this '79 as a sad, neglected and stripped of parts basket case. My goal was to bring it back to life and build a bike that not only looked good but functioned well as fun little ripper. I removed as much weight as I could and successfully shaved 70 pounds! I love ripping this bike...
