Crankcase vent using a reed valve.

Gary, you are correct in thinking the diaphragm valve only closes when throttle is rolled off, allowing no air movement through the reed valve. At least that is how it works on my Honda. When I installed the Mikes valve on the xs650, how much pressure and then vacuum is created in the crankcase...

    Van Islander's TX650A Restoration

Been following this, very nice Van Islander. I do like that cinnamon brown model. There is, or was one the same for sale at Windbell motorcycles in North Van, but as usual, too much and too rough. So still looking.

Crankcase vent using a reed valve.

Looking forward to seeing how this turns out. Those valves have been removed from a lot of bikes so should be easy enough to come by. My Honda 500 single has one hanging off the side of the engine, and looks like an after thought just stuck on there. But it is staying for now, need to have it...

Yamaha XS 650 Police Special New Zealand

yeah, all good things come to an end eventually. I think the tragic accident with the father, daughter, outfit was the end. It was too dangerous, so common sense had to prevail.

    Anyone ever own a BSA?

Back in the very early 70s I had a 68 Lightning. It was an ok bike, but not as quick as my previous 650 Triumphs. And that was the problem, the need for speed. As for heavy bikes, not now, as I approach 71, everything hurts too much, and don't have the strength anymore. Had an xs850 triple...

Yamaha XS 650 Police Special New Zealand

When did you race, Graelin. Been to the classic races at Puke a few times, last time was, maybe, 04or 05. My brother lives in Huntly, so easy for us to do both Pukekohe and then the battle of the streets in Paeroa the next weekend. Been a while since I last went back to NZ, once this covid thing...

Yamaha XS 650 Police Special New Zealand

Graelin, thanks for posting up the photos of your police bike from those days. Even though I don't remember the xs650 as a police bike in NZ, it makes sense. When I lived in Auckland, the traffic cops rode Triumph Saints, that was it. So going from a British 650 to a Japanese 650 would be an...

    Formula 1 Fans?

Another season done and dusted. Even though it was some what controversial most of the time, it had some fantastic racing by two of the best drivers today. Both deserved the win, regardless of who you are a fan of. Unfortunately F1 has become a big business and a show must be put on to keep fans...

Agreed. Very disappointed in that track and the race itself. To hear the teams negotiate with Massi has me wondering what else goes on behind closed doors. Tied with one to go, perfect. May the best driver win. Who ever that may be.

Halco Ascot TT. Ya Want One?

I received a couple of catalogues from Tony Hall years back, still have them. Ascot mentioned in the 99 edition, so took a couple of pics, with prices in Sterling.

Never enough. Interesting read, never thought of electrically spinning up the turbo, genius. F1 seems to go through phases of domination by one team or some times two, like we have seen in recent years. That is part of the sport, all sport come to think of it. One driver in the dominant car wins...

Kop, you are right, Jack was the only one to win the F1 title in a car with his name. Dan Gurney and Bruce McLaren both won races in their cars as well. Not sure if others have done as well, Google may reveal others. How long have I been into F1. This pic was taken by my mum back in 1958. I do...

    Formula 1 Fans?

Yeah, too bad about the racing mishap that took Max out, two guys unwilling to concede an inch. They could have given each other a little more room, but that is not part of a racer mindset. 10 seconds for Hammy was justified, he was going to get some points, how many at the time remained to be...

    Formula 1 Fans?

Since Red Bull/Honda have been on a winning streak, this thread seems to have disappeared. Let’s bring it back. Merc not having a win in four races, who would have thunk that a couple of months back. I love it. Max is the best driver, just didn’t, have the power unit to showcase that talent. Now...

    Formula 1 Fans?

Yep, two boring races, both Portugal and Barcelona were a big yawn. My wife got up and said “I’ve had enough of this crap” and left the room, with 15 laps to go. I think F1 is completely fu**)d right now, and can’t seem to get their act together, or does Merc have control of everything. Maybe...
