    AVMCP (another VM carb post)

Just to wrap this thread up, I think the carbs are good. I think I have other issues going on with either valve or ignition timing.

    AVMCP (another VM carb post)

I did pull the needle jet out of one of the carbs to inspect it and could not find any markings. I'll pull it again and double check. If its not stamped, is there anyway to tell if its a 159?

It has the Hughs PMA, so nothing to check there right? I did pull the left cover off and inspect everything and it all appears to be tidy, in place and as it should be.

OK, here it goes. I have a friend (no really, its my friends bike, not mine) who has a freshly built 77' XS650. Frame off...powdercoated frame...the works. He did a really nice job. Also tore down and rebuilt the motor, and I trust his work. He also has the full Hughs PM/Charging and ignition...

    Leaky base gasket

Upon close inspection, I did find this ding on the left side (right were the lead was appearing) so I'm hoping this was the issue. I'm guessing someone was trying to pry the cylinders off the case. I did a little work with a flat file so I'm hoping that does the trick.

    Leaky base gasket

-Yes, Athena green gasket -Three bond is the gasket sealer I was referencing -Regarding travelling oil leads...JP, I hear you, but I really took time to observe where the source of the leak was coming from. The base of the oil pipe did have a little something coming from it, but I'm 98% sure it...

    Leaky base gasket

Hey guys, did a fresh engine build from a box of parts. Its was torn all the way down to the tranny and I built it back up. Was stocked about that cuz I've only done from the top end up in the past. Any hooter...doing some shake-down runs everything seems fine...shifts nice, but have a bad oil...

    Carb Woes...

Just wanted to follow up on this. I purchased another set of carbs on eBay and zero issues with them. Idles great and no popping. Did a couple of laps around the block yesterday also. Fresh engine rebuild (tore it all the down to the cases) so I'm stocked that it runs good and shifts through all...

    Carb Woes...

Agree 100%; if the jetting is off it wouldn't run great, but would not completely die with the slightest amount of throttle. @Brassneck This is a true Frankenstein build, including the carbs. No guarantee on any of it being compatible. Thats part of the fun right? :banghead: I statically timed...

    Carb Woes...

The markings on the main jets are unreadable. @jpdevol you are thinking its lean? @Brassneck fuel bowls are full and yes, I checked the float level. Also, slides are are right I think; the angle is facing the rear of the carb. I will say, I noticed the advance doesn't quite snap back all the...

    Carb Woes...

Hey guys...I have a ground-up project I'm finally getting running and am struggling to get it running right. I'm 90% sure it's a carb issue. I fully rebuild the engine (split the cases) so I feel confident in the valve train. It has good compression for what that is worth. B38 carbs, and the...

    For Sale - B38 Carbs

These carbs are complete and should be bolt-on ready. I disassembled and cleaned them (soaked in carb dip) and ensured all the passages were clear by blowing through carb cleaner and compressed air. I know the pics don't look great, but save some pitting in the metal they are clean. I decided...

    2 in one cable?

Hey guys, I have the carbs pictured below. Ordered this cable from Mikes, but no cigar. The carb ends are to small for these carbs. I need the larger round tips. Anyone know where I can find a cable to work with these or am I going to have to make my own?
