I converted to VM34's from TC brothers last October. I think they sent the wrong kit. The the pilot jet they had installed was the #12.5.The biggest one they sent me was 17.5. A main jet of 165 was installed. I called them the sent me a 20, 22.5, and a 25. It ran like shit with the stuff...
Thank you Gary,
About tail pipe connector,
Is the proper connector 1 1/2"X1 3/4" or 1 1/2 X 1 3/8" (as per your link) ?
Don't want to have to go stand in line at Autozone twice...
I went with the ebay gravity model. I couldn't get the oem tap put back together after i took it apart. Gravity one works great. I am using the one that has 2 outlets, one side has a bolt screwed in. I am using both sides and the set-up works great with the new VM34 carbs.
Instead of pulling the battery I bought a 20 watt "Renogy" solar charger ($23) a few weeks ago to keep the batteries charged while the 81' Special is stashed in backyard tool shed. After two days, the battery tested out at 14 volts. Two days later it was measuring 17 volts, to high. It's...
Mice chewed on the wiring. Get the $60 new wiring harness. It was plug and play for me.
You better off doing than wasting time trying to fix the old wiring....
You have a lot resources now a days. Use your computer. If you don't have one, get one. If the one you have is old and slow, get a powerful refurbished PC or laptop.
Download Schematics and watch videos.
Back in the day, to get parts we had to go stand inline at a counter for some guy who...
Hey guys, I went to autozone and took the straight barb, and sure enough, m7-1 is the right size. Thanks for all your help.
Now I know what that gauge is for, measuring thread pitch thank you MacmacMac.
Thanks for all the offers. I took the straight barb to AutoZone and of course nothing...
Hello Crew:
I hope all is well for you this morning. it's 36 degrees here near Washington D.C. at the moment. I am using a generic xs650 replacement petcock on my 1981 Special with original tank. I am looking for a replacement barbbecause I broke the 90 degree one that came with it and can't...
I recently installed Mikuni VM34 carbs. I am happy with them.
The bike started easily from the start, sometimes.
A lot of time was spent changing out the pilot jets and sorting out the petcock to use. Using the non-vacuum petcock that's real common, comes with a straight and two right angle...
I worked in a office in Washington D.C. for 24 years. Lots of advanced degrees and highly educated staff members.
Wore an original Leatherman tool in it's leather sheath on my belt occasionally - until someone said doing so was in-appropriate. I think this was after O.J.
Maybe he thought it...
Has anybody ever tried this ? I needed to pull the flywheel on my 2003 Mercury outboard. The Mercury Shop Manual did this job with a special strap I'd have to order. I heard somewhere about sticking a rope in the cylinder so the pistons couldn't turn over. Worked well on a 60 hp outboard and...
Spend $60-70 and get the Chinese copy. TCI version. I spent weeks or months working around the 41 yr. wiring. FIXED. I got the Mikes $65 harness and reinstalled all the safety relays folks deleted.
Other merchants sell the same product. You are right about the different color wires. The...
I bench sync'ed it. I wish I had more capacity. I work on it in my urban front yard LOL.
When I run with an auxiliary tank to tune, I'll park it near a tree on the edge of the drive way and hang the tank there.
I forgot to say that I just replaced the OEM petcock with an aftermarket one. I took the tank off to clean it and took the petcock apart at the same time.
Everything was real clean. I put it back together than of course the old petcock was leaking. Getting the new petcock spigot pointed in the...
