@MaxPete You are correct of course, not sure why I entered that data. Fixed and my '79 F too. Brain cramp I guess. Thanks, Rob

    Sold / Found / Inactive - SOLD - 1977 Yamaha XS 650 D Rolling project for building ~ Maine

Yup, good idea, Steve, thanks.... The engine does kick through, right side is great compression, left side is less. I have no idea of mileage I have no gauges. As stated, the frame is stock and un-cut anywhere and includes both stands. Aluminum wheels are in good condition. Your basic...

    Sold / Found / Inactive - SOLD - 1977 Yamaha XS 650 D Rolling project for building ~ Maine

Need a project...? 1977 Yamaha XS 650 D Rolling project for building into a Flat Tracker or...? I had thought about building a flat tracker with this roller but priorities have changed with a Triumph 750 to finish and the MGB to get back onto the road and the '79 XS 650 F to clean up for...

Blank slate... yet another XS Project.

No title and the State of Maine does not require one for vehicles twenty-five (25) years and older. In fact, they refuse to issue one when requested. Long story made short, I needed one for a 1984 Guzzi that was sold to a fellow in Cananda and sent the funds in to the state with the...

Blank slate... yet another XS Project.

Engine and Frame numbers match - 447-703318 and the list in the Tech area here state that it is a "D" US model, 76-77. The build date of 8/76 one would probably think that this is a 1977 Model Year...? Correct...? Cheers, Rob

Blank slate... yet another XS Project.

I brought this home ta-day. A fellow North of here had this for sale and I just could not resist. Initial numbers tells me that it is a '77D model but I'll verify when I read the engine number. Not really certain what I will do with it yet, I'll sit in the garage and do some serious looking...

    Motorcycle specific clutch friendly oil...?

@jetmechmarty One last clarification... The JASO is MA. Is the Yamalube the 4T, AP-04 or the AP-12...? Appreciate it.

    Motorcycle specific clutch friendly oil...?

Well kinda... School me on JSO numbers. This...? Manufacturer: Yamaha OEM Part Number: LUB-20W50-AP-04 Details: Yamalube 20W-50 Motorsorts All Purpose Engine Oil - 1 Quart, This performance-blended mineral oil is suitable for use in motorcycles, ATVs, Side-by-Side vehicles, and scooters...

    Motorcycle specific clutch friendly oil...?

See how I tried to disguise an oil thread...? No, huh...? In that the XS650F (and all of these Yamahas I guess) share engine and tranny oil, does the choice in oil need to be compatible with wet clutches...? Any preferred...? I happen to be nearly complete Triumph T140V 750 and have the...

Fuel taps, vacuum rebuild kits or swap to non vacuum...?

I'm torn, I like the idea of manual taps but would like to rebuild the original vacuum type however, the quality of the rebuild kits available are in question. Where did you source your rebuild kits for the vacuum type. Thanks, Rob

Fuel taps, vacuum rebuild kits or swap to non vacuum...?

Gotcha. Mine is a '79 F Standard. So I looked further and found the non-vacuum petcock with the correct 46mm bolt spacing. None of the images show the actual flange however, it "Looks" right. Interchangeable outlets too. Am I correct in concluding that the only mod to the carb is to...

Fuel taps, vacuum rebuild kits or swap to non vacuum...?

Sorry for the delay... long story. Been ridiculously busy elsewhere. So I am unable to find an issue with the O-Rings in the back of the fuel taps that @Jim talked to me about. Thinking about going to the non-vacuum fuel taps however, the ones on Mike'sXS seem to have a different base and...
