What have you done to your XS today?

Changed oil, replaced alternator bushings and replaced blown speedo light. Then rode the heck out of it.

    Battery Problems

Bought my '82 xs a year ago and have put 5000 miles on it. Don't know how old the battery was when I bought it, but I have always kept it on a tender. Last week it reached the point where it wouldn't turn the starter and wouldn't hold a charge. So I replaced it this morning and all is good...

Haven't had a drip in the last 350 miles. I will keep you suggestions in mind for the next time I see a drip, Thanks to everyone for chiming in.

    Milestones Today

Yeah, I thought about not posting the buckhorns, but I'm one of those who love them. Hard to tell about the leak. Wiped it off underneath, took it out for a hard ride and now no drip. Maybe seepage behind what I would call the "primary" on a Harley. May take awhile for the seepage to...

    Milestones Today

Turned 54,000 miles today. But I've only done 4,000 of those. Bought this '81 XS on Jan 3rd with 50,000 miles on it. It had been sitting for a couple of years and the tires were 12 years old. So I filled her up with non-ethanol gas and some seafoam. Installed new tires and wheels bearings...

Why No Mention of Sump Filter in Owner's Manual?

Okay, so I just read through 200 of the 420 threads on Sump filters trying to see if anyone addressed this question and don't see a discussion on it. "Why doesn't the owner's manual for my '81 SH mention anything about the sump filter needing to be checked/replaced periodically?" All it...

Glad I'm not the only one who feels like it is laboring. She feels good at 60 but starts to labor a little after that. Still runs good but the feel is you wouldn't want to run for hours there.

Yes, it would in my good old "younger" days. The bottom on this 69 year old skeleton doesn't take as kindly to that seat as it used to.

Thanks. You're right about more pics. I'm bad about forgetting until it's too late. More rides may be a bit more difficult. Already doing 40k miles a year. Vast majority are long road trips on the Harley touring bike and shorter overnighters with the wife when she gets her Spyder out. XS...

    Just Ride.

Great day for a ride. Rode 25 miles to our monthly CMA meeting and then on to our weekly family breakfast gathering. Then took the loooong way home through 4 counties (total of 120 miles). I don't think the Stagecoach comes through here anymore. BTW I think this ole '81 is dialed in - 60 mpg...
